Two-time AMA Pro Superbike Championship runner-up Blake Young, age 25, will ride Attack Performance Racing’s CRT MotoGP racebike as a wild card in all three American MotoGP events in 2013, according to Team Owner Richard Stanboli. “Yeah, he’s committed to riding our CRT bike. We’re just waiting to iron out some of the details,” Stanboli told RoadracingWorld.com Thursday. “We’ve agreed to terms. I’ve shot a contract over to Chuck [Aksland, Young’s manager]. And once that’s signed we’ll make an [official] announcement.” After winning races with Team M4 EMGO Suzuki in the AMA Pro Supersport and Superstock classes in 2008, Young joined the Yoshimura Suzuki factory team in 2009. In the four years Young rode for Yoshimura Suzuki he racked up 13 Superbike class wins and finished second in the Championship in 2011 and 2012. But Yoshimura Suzuki did not renew Young’s contract for the 2013, leaving him unemployed. “It’s kind of a shame that he’s not riding [full-time] this year,” said Stanboli. “But it’s to our advantage, because I think we can really use a guy like that to better our effort. “I think he’s still trying to get something going in AMA. I’m not precluding him from riding something else. We just want to get a good run on our CRT bike and show the world we know what’s going on.” Stanboli has been hard at work on his custom racebike since Steve Rapp raced it to 14th in the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix in August of 2012. The billet aluminum chassis has been altered, and Stanboli has redesigned the Kawasaki ZX-10R-based powerplant to have an uneven firing order, like a Yamaha YZF-R1, to improve drive grip. Stanboli said he is planning to have Young test the bike at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway soon, before heading to a one-day Bridgestone tire test at Circuit of the Americas in February. The three American MotoGP rounds are scheduled for April 19-21 at Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas; July 19-21 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, in Monterey, California; and August 16-18 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
