BQR, Fogi Racing And GP Tech Putting Together Moto2 Deal For American Kenny Noyes

BQR Racing, Fogi Racing and GP Tech have put together a deal that will see American Kenny Noyes return to the FIM Moto2 World Championship in 2011. He will join Colombian Yonny Hernandez and Spaniard Esteve “Tito” Rabat riding British-built FTR Moto2 bikes for BQR Racing, based in Barcelona, Spain. Noyes got off to a relatively strong start during the inaugural Moto2 season in 2010, qualifying ninth and finishing seventh in round two at Jerez and earning pole position at Le Mans, a track he had never ridden on before. But aside from relatively good results at the two other rounds in Spain (where he has raced for the last few seasons), Noyes, one of only two riders on a PromoHarris chassis, struggled to break into the top-20. He ended up 24th in the final Moto2 World Championship point standings, but had the distinction of being the Grand Prix rookie with the best individual results, two seventh places. In November 2010, Noyes’ team, Jack&Jones Presented by Antonio Banderas, announced that the American would continue with the team in 2011 using the popular Suter chassis, but on December 2, 2010, Noyes informed Roadracingworld.com that his team had folded. “Team sponsorship fell apart,” Noyes wrote in an e-mail to Roadracingworld.com. “We are now looking at other options, but it is late and there are not many good slots open.” That’s when GP Tech’s Geoff Maloney stepped in. Fresh from a successful wild card effort with American Jason DiSalvo in the Moto2 race at the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, an event in which DiSalvo rode a GP Tech/Fogi Racing FTR M210 to ninth, Maloney said he felt compelled to help Noyes for the 2011 season. “After meeting Kenny at last year’s Indy test it was clear he would be a good fit to ride a FTR,” Maloney, a former AMA 250cc Grand Prix racer, told Roadracingworld.com Sunday. Maloney said he then shared his idea with his business partners at FTR and Fogi Racing (which supplied the M210 DiSalvo rode at Indianapolis), BQR (a Spanish team very familiar with Noyes’ success racing in the CEV/Spanish National Championships) got involved and an agreement between all parties was reached. The final documents are expected to be signed Monday, January 17. “This is a true collaborative effort,” said Maloney. “FTR and Fogi Racing really stepped up to make this happen. All the pieces came together when BQR could provide a spot for Kenny. I’m eager to see Kenny on competitive equipment riding for a well respected team like BQR.”
