Erion Honda AMA Formula Xtreme racer Alex Gobert, 21, will quit professional road racing at the end of the 2005 season and return to his home in Australia to pursue a career in moto-journalism. “Yeah, I’m going to go back to Australia and try something else for a while. I’m not going to race anymore,” Gobert told Roadracingworld.com Friday morning at Mid-Ohio. “It should be good to try something different because I’ve been on a factory or factory-supported team since I was 16. I think the enjoyment I’ve had racing this year hasn’t really been there, and it shows in my results. “I had a good talk about it with my mom (who also serves as Gobert’s business manager). I wouldn’t mind getting into something like journalism, testing bikes, writing stories and stuff. So I’m going to finish this season, go home, have a look at my options and see what’s going on. I’m definitely looking forward to doing something different.” Gobert is currently fourth in the AMA Formula Xtreme Championship with a best result of sixth at Road America, the last round. He finished fourth in the 2004 AMA Formula Xtreme Championship with three podium finishes. In 2003, Gobert finished fourth in the AMA Supersport Championship with two fourth-place finishes.
