AHRMA offers full schedule of Bike Week activities

Vintage motorcycle racing enthusiasts have plenty to keep them busy during Florida’s upcoming Bike Week, including a full schedule of American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association road racing, dirt track, motocross, cross country and observed trials from Feb. 24 to March 3. Also, AHRMA’s 2003 national champions and special award winners will be honored at a series of three ceremonies, and legendary racers will be available for autograph sessions.

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY, FEB. 24 & 25

THURSDAY, FEB. 26

AHRMA road race, Jennings GP. The opening round of the 2004 Pro-Flo/Progressive Suspension Historic Cup Series on this 14-turn, 2-mile-long track. AHRMA will honor racing licenses from WERA Vintage, USCRA and VRRA (AMA membership required). Registration & tech open, 7. Practice, 8-10. Racing, 10:30. Admission, $10/day.

FRIDAY, FEB. 27

WERA Vintage road race, Jennings GP. Open to all AHRMA, WERA, USCRA and VRRA licensed racers. Entry info: 804-539-2065, www.weravintage.org.

AHRMA cross country, Gatorback Cycle Park, Gainesville, Fla. For the first round of AHRMA’s ’04 national cross country series, separate one-hour vintage (pre-1975) and post-vintage (post-1974) races will be run. AHRMA Dirt Track Awards, Oglethorpe Speedway Park, Savannah, Ga. This will be a barbecue luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m.

TUESDAY, MARCH 2

AHRMA Classics Days road racing, Daytona International Speedway. In addition to another full day of Historic Cup action, there will be autograph sessions and the Great Men, Great Machines parade at lunch break, including a special BSA parade commemorating the 50th anniversary of BSA’s top-five sweep of the Daytona 200. Track opens, 7 a.m. Practice, 8-11. Racing, noon.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3

AHRMA TT & short track, Orange County Raceway, Bithlo, Fla. A regional TT will run in the morning, with sign-up at 9 and practice at 10. National short track sign-up, 2 p.m. Practice, 4. Racing, 6. Track info: http://hometown.aol.com/ocrclayovalfl/, 407-568-9668.



DIRECTIONS

Bithlo. East of Orlando on Highway 50 between SR 419 and SR 520. Adjacent to Orlando Speed World.

Daytona Beach. The American Motorcycle Institute is just west of the I-95/West International Speedway Boulevard interchange, on the north side of the road. The speedway itself is about a mile east of I-95 on West International Speedway Boulevard.

Gainesville. To get to Gatorback Cycle park coming from south of Gainesville on I-75, exit on SR 26 (Exit 76). Go west 8 miles to NW 202, then north 3 miles to 46th Ave. Gatorback is on the left. From the north, use I-75 Exit 78 (Alachua). Go east on Hwy 441 to SR 235, then 8 miles to 46th Ave. Turn left. Gatorback is on the right. The Holiday Inn West (site of the off-road banquet) is at I-75 Exit 76.

Jasper. Exit 460 off I-75 then west on State Route 6 for 5 miles.

Jennings. From I-75 Exit 467, go south on CR 143 three miles to CR 152 (flashing light). Turn right on CR 152, and the main gate is 0.3 mile on the right.

Savannah. I-95 to Georgia Exit 102, then 2.5 miles east on Route 80. Turn right on Dublin Road (just east of Cat Construction Co.), go 0.3 miles, then southwest on Jessup.
