Jay Newton wins multiple podiums at MSR Houston
Jay Newton dominated during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s fifth round of the 2018 season this past Sunday, June 17, on the 17-turn, 2.38 mile road course at MSR Houston, in Angleton, Texas.
The morning brought with it some dark rain clouds and a few rain droplets randomly fell throughout the day during on and off showers making for some very interesting race conditions. Despite these tricky conditions Jay Newton still brought home six podium finishes, including first in Formula 1 Expert running a 1:40.428 on his Pirelli-shod Yamaha YZF-R6. Newton also received first in Superstock B Expert with a 1:51.158, Superstock C Expert running a 1:40.633, Superbike C Expert running a 1:52.143, and Superbike B Expert running a fast lap of 1:36.929. Newton also brought home a second in Superstock A Expert with a fast lap of 1:36.020.
Casey Scholten landed on the podium twice on his Yamaha YZF-R3 and twice on his Kawasaki ZX-6R. Scholten brought home firsts in Superstock D Novice running a 2:04.535, Superbike B Novice running a 1:46.102, and Superbike C Novice with a fast lap of 1:44.977. Scholten also earned a second place finish in Formula 2 Novice with a fast lap of 1:59.180.
Dustin Dominguez ran the fastest lap of the weekend during the Superstock A Expert race aboard his Dunlop-shod Kawasaki ZX-10R with a lap time of 1:34.108.
Ronnie Grove shined this weekend when he ran the fastest lap time for the novices this past Sunday. Grove turned a 1:44.898 laptime aboard his Yamaha YZF-R1.
