Pretty Hate Machine won the overall in the Superteam race aboard their Yamaha YZF-R1. Team Burleson/Burleson took the overall in the 500 Superstock Team 60 race on their YZF-R3s in the opening rounds of the Superteam series and 500 Superstock Team 60 this past Saturday, February 16, 2019, at MSR Houston.
The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) began its 2019 season on Saturday with Sprint racing, a 2.25-hour Superteam race, and Team 60 race, bringing over 7 hours of racing action trackside in Angleton, Texas. Beautiful sunny weather in the mid 70’s made for great track conditions on the 2.38-mile full road course.
By introducing a new schedule structure for the 2019 season, the CMRA now runs races for every bike size on Saturday’s. The Sprint grids ran first, with D Superstock, Classic, B Superstock, 500 Superbike, Grom Challenge, Formula 5, Formula 6, Formula 7, Formula 8, Junior Motard, Formula 2, 300 Superstock, and the Bell Helmets sponsored A Superstock class. The sprints were followed up with the Team 60 classes and Superteam race.
The Team 60 had thirteen lightweight teams entered. The father-son team of Burleson/Burleson took overall Team 60 and 500 Superstock class wins with a fastest lap of 1:47.189 aboard their Yam YZF-R3’s. Team Howard/Shakespeare, finished second overall and second in 500 Superstock with the fastest lap of the race being a 1:46.508, with Klesel/Orchard finishing third overall and third in 500 Superstock with a fast lap of 1:50.543. Fox/Whitten crossed the line fourth overall with a first place finish in 300 Superstock with a fast lap of 1:50.131. Smith/Steinhoff crossed fifth overall and second in 300 Superstock with a fast lap of 1:49.651. And the team of Mathews/McDaniel crossed for a sixth overall and third in 300 Superstock with a fastest lap of 1:52.483. Webster/Wilson crossed the line eleventh overall and first in 200 Superstock with a fastest lap of 1:58.682.
The 2.25 Hour Superteam race had a thirteen-bike grid as well, with heavyweight, middleweight, and lightweight machines being represented.
Pretty Hate Machine won the overall and Superteam Heavyweight with a fast lap of 1:39.216, followed by The Skidmarks ST for second overall and second in Superteam Heavyweight and a fastest lap of 1:39.116. Slow AF were next for third overall and third in Superteam Heavyweight with a fast lap of 1:39.528. Team Menopause crossed next, fourth overall and first in Superteam Middleweight with a fast lap of 1:40.364, with Dogged Racing behind them for fifth overall and second in Superteam Middleweight and a fast lap of 1:42.855. JMJ Racing, finished sixth overall and forth in Superteam Heavyweight with a fast lap of 1:40.790.
Cory Burleson brought home two expert podiums this past Saturday aboard his Yamaha YZF-R3. A third overall in 500 Superbike Expert running a fast lap of 1:45.777. The second place overall in 300 Superstock with a fastest lap of the race at a 1:47.348.
Dustin Dominguez turned the fastest lap time of the experts in the Saturday morning sprint races aboard his Kawasaki ZX-10R with a time of 1:32.800 during the Bell Helmets sponsored A Superstock Expert race.
Brandon Clark brought home three first place finishes this Saturday. Clark received first in class in D Superstock Novice aboard his Suzuki SV650 running the fastest novice lap time with a 1:49.072, a first in class in 500 Superstock Novice aboard his Yamaha YZF-R3 with a fast time of 1:51.288, and a first in class in 300 Superstock Novice aboard the Yamaha YZF-R3 running another fastest novice time of 1:51.289.
Ben Hunter turned the fastest lap of the novices in the Saturday morning sprint races aboard his Yamaha YZF-R1 with a time of 1:41.399 in the Bell Helmets sponsored A Superstock Class.
