Early Season '13 - Switch 7 Clip - Freestyle Skier Chris Redlich-Colgan
- Here's Chris Redlich-Colgan, freestyle skier, at age 14 showing some of his freestyle skiing skills at Mt. Bachelor in December 2013.
Chris skis with MBSEF, (Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation) & is a full time member of the competition Free Ride team. Chris regularly competes in Regional USASA (United States of America Snowboard Association) events & has also competed at the National level within the USASA. Additionally, Chris has competed in events such as the Gatorade Freeflow Tour & The Dirksen Derby as well as the USSA Revolution Tour & USSA Races when he was training for ski racing.
Chris began skiing while in Kindergarten as part of an after-school ski program. At age 10 he joined the Snow Summit Race Team Ski Racing Program. After two months on the development program he was the only racer chosen to move to the full time Race Team. Shortly after losing their home to a fire Chris' family relocated in search for a better life. It was then that Chris' desires to become a Freestyle Skier were finally able to be realized, as he joined the MBSEF Freeride Ski Team. In a relatively short time with the team Chris has absolutely flourished with his training & has held his own while competing in the top levels of his sport.
It is Chris' goal to compete in & win Gold Medals in both the Winter X Games & Winter Olympics. Ultimately Chris would love to be able share his knowledge, skills & skiing experiences, while serving in the capacity of a Professional Freestyle Ski Instructor, with under privileged & at risk youth. Chris would like to own & operate his own youth ski camp wherein he can break the otherwise financially restrictive barriers & bring the joys of skiing to children who otherwise would not be able to experience it due to poor financial & economical restrictions. Chris feels that all kids should be able to experience the love & joys of skiing, not just the wealthy ones.
Aside from skiing, Chris is currently an ninth grader with a 3.14 GPA. In the off season Chris loves to practice his ski flips & tricks on the trampoline & slack line. He can regularly be found at the park slack-lining with his friends or at the skate park inline skating. During the Summers, Chris earns money for his skiing by instructing Okinawan Karate classes four days a week. Chris has been training in Okinawan Shuri Ryu since he was only three years old. He currently holds the rank of First Degree Black Belt. Most importantly, Chris is a good person, a responsible teenager & is an awesome role model to his little brother, Connor.
Chris proudly uses Mad Owl Freestyle Ski Poles, Armada Skis, Nordica Ski Boots, Spy Goggles, POC Helmets, POC Back and Hip Protectors, Swix Wax, Armada Outerwear, Jiberish Outerwear, Level 1 Outerwear, Saga Outerwear, Columbia Omni Heat Gloves, Black Strap Face Masks, SmartWool Socks, Virus Base & Compression Layers, Skins Base & Compression Layers, Skull Candy Headphones, RECCO Advanced Rescue Technology & STIKIT Ski Straps.
