Yamalube/Westby Racing Rider Dane Westby On His Way To Daytona

Tulsa, OK – March 5, 2015 – “I’m heading to Daytona.” Those were the words of Yamalube/Westby Racing rider, Dane Westby, this morning just before beginning his trip to Daytona International Speedway. “To race in the 200?” was our logical question, to which Dane answered, “No, I won’t be racing. I’m going there as a spectator, and to watch my girlfriend [and ADR Motorsports rider] Patricia Fernandez compete in the 200. I’m getting on my bike now.”

Last year, Dane and Patricia rode a motorcycle from Oklahoma all the way to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where he competed aboard his Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike class at Road America, so he set a precedent for taking two-wheeled road trips prior to race weekends.

But, this trip to Daytona is a little different since Dane is making the trip solo…oh, and did we mention that Dane’s bike will be powered Dane himself?

Rather than riding a motorcycle to Daytona, Dane set off this morning aboard his BICYCLE. His plan is to make the 1,200+-mile trip in just nine days by pedaling at least 135 miles each day. “I’m traveling light. I’ll pedal by day and stay in hotels by night. It’s going to be fun.”

Dane is recording his trip on Strava.com, so fans can keep track of his progress. He’ll also be posting updates and photos along the way on Twitter, so be sure to follow him “@WestbyRR.”

Yamalube/Westby Racing will compete in the 2015 MotoAmerica Series beginning at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, TX, on April 10, 11, and 12. Dane Westby will compete aboard his #00 Yamaha YZR-R1 in 1000 Superstock and with additional sponsorship by Broaster Chicken.
