Stefano Mesa and Pirelli Crush the Competition to Set Motorcycle Track Record at Palm Beach International Raceway

DIABLO™ SUPERBIKE Slicks Capture Pirelli’s Second Bounty of 2018

ROME, Ga. (February 1, 2018) – Pirelli Tire North America would like to congratulate Stefano Mesa oncapturing the brand’s second track bounty of the season at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida, on January 28. Mesa, who was competing aboard a Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-10R equipped with Pirelli DIABLO™ SUPERBIKE slicks, earned his first absolute motorcycle track record of the season at Round 3 of the Florida Motorcycle Road Racing Association Championship (FMRRA). The record brings Pirelli’s track record bounty up to two in just the first month of 2018.

“Stefano continues to impress me every time I see him ride,” said Oscar Solis, road racing manager, Pirelli. “He had a bad crash that resulted in a broken leg in October and now in January he’s back on the bike and breaking absolute track records. We’re proud to be part of his program and have a mutual trust in his performance.”

Mesa utilized the low temperatures, in the 80’s, of “The Sunshine State” to take full advantage of putting Pirelli’s rubber to the ground en route to a 1:15.024 lap time during the SuperBike 1000 Sprint Expert race. Mesa’s Ninja ZX-10R used a DIABLO SUPERBIKE SC2 slick on the front tire and a SC0 on the rear. With the biggest bounty in Pirelli history being awarded in 2018, Mesa will pick up a $750 tire voucher because of his new record. The feat came just one week after Pirelli captured its first track record bounty of the season with David Anthony at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway.

“The Pirelli tires are awesome,” said Mesa. “I’m still not quite 100 percent and back to where I was before my injury, but I’m hoping to get there soon. I want to thank Pirelli for all of their support and providing me with tires capable of performing at the highest level.”

In addition to the new record lap time, Mesa crushed the competition by taking home three overall wins in the SuperBike 1000 Sprint Expert, SuperBike 1000 Grande Corsa Expert, and SuperStock 1000 Sprint Expert classes. His best lap was more than two seconds quicker than his nearest competitor.
