Round Two Recap Of Pirelli/WERA National Challenge Series From Last Weekend At TGPR (Corrected)

R#2 PIRELLI/WERA NATIONAL CHALLENGE!

On April 24 riders of the Pirelli/WERA National Challenge Series took to the track at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway in Alabama for Round #2! Mother Nature gave them perfect racing weather as they took on the challenge of Little Talladega.

The day’s racing began with the Grom Cup by Honda and Mini Racers. #78 Damian Jigalov took the win with #90 Chris Evans in 2nd and #13 Travis Richards in 3rd. #122 Blake Davis won the Mini 80 Class on his Honda 50 and #141 Kevin Bradford Nolde took the win in the 80cc Mini on his Hon 85. 

Open Superstock saw #137 Stefano Mesa on his Kaw 1000 battle with #99 Geoff May on his Kaw 1000 with #72 Billy Ethridge on his Suz 1000 in third. The Novice win went to #75 Gary Virgin on his Yam 1000 with #141 Tim Pike on his Hon 1000 followed by #404 Steve Rigby on his Kaw 1000. 

Formula 3 had Jigalov taking another win on his KTM 390 followed by #19 Tyler Freeman on his Yam R3 and #222 Matt Wallace on his Hon 125. 

600 Superstock had #195 Nick Shahin take the honors on his Suz 600 followed by #26 Daniel Paine on his Yam 500 and #710 Ryan Christian on his Yam 600. 

#43 Shane Perry on his Yam 600 followed by #446 Garrett O’Brien on his Hon 600 and #37 Bradford Nevue on his Yam 600 made up the Novice Podium. 

Heavyweight Twins Superbike saw #144 Stephen Tsotsoros on his Buell 1125 take the win followed by #2 Chris Broome on his Duc 1299 and #99 Michael L. Sanders on his Tri 675 – Iron Man #911 Aaron Borello made laps on his KTM 1190 for points only finishing 7th after a nasty crash in practice on Saturday with fellow rider #83 Luie Zendejas – both riders were treated and released. 

Also missing was contender #15 Ben Napier who had a mechanical. The Novice win went to #22 James E. Blasius on his Tri 675 followed by #56 Team Palella on her Tri 675 and #712 Paxton Jones on his Suz 650.

750 Superstock saw #195 Shahin take his second win followed by #124 Joseph Blasius and #26 Paine. 

Novice #43 Perry took his second win followed by #49 Andrew Bowen on his Tri 675 and #119 Patrick Buell on his Suz 750. 

The Pro 600 Superbike Expert race had a tight battle between Shahin and Paine with Shahin taking win three by 0.442 seconds – third went to #131 Charles Ivey on his Yam 600. 

#43 Perry took a win for the Novices with #161 Roy Lee Kinser, Jr. on his Yam 600 and #486 Alexander Acenan on his Tri 675 rounding out the top 3. 

Lightweight Twins Superstock Expert saw #621 Chris Bays taking the win followed by #177 Kevin Tucker and #355 James East all on Suz 650s. Novice winner was #425 Anthony R. Paul, followed by #464 Yaunce Long and #59 Michael Ketterer all on Suz 650s.

750 Superbike Expert saw #26 Paine take a first with #912 Lester C. Helm on his Suz 750 in second and #124 Blasius in third. Formula 2 Expert had #621 Bays taking the win #626 Brian “Tuna” Mullins in second and #173 Kevin Tucker in third all on Suz 650s. #425 took the Novice win with #712 Jones in second and #464 Long in third all on Suz 650s.

The Michelin/WERA Superbike Race had #99 May running away from the field and left #137 Mesa in second with #72 Ethridge in third.

The WERA Sportsman Series presented by Marietta Motorsports Riders ran on Saturday and all results can be found on wera.com for the weekend. Round #3 will see the riders compete on Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA the weekend of June 17/18 and 19! Join us and see some great future stars in the sport of Motorcycle Roadracing.
