Racer, Race Official Kurt Kesler Killed In Traffic Accident On Thanksgiving Day

Multi-time WERA Regional Champion Kurt Kesler was killed in a traffic accident November 23, Thanksgiving Day, in Gainesville, Georgia. Kessler was 51.

According to a published report, the GMC Safari van Kesler was driving was struck in the driver’s side by a Chevy Cobalt that failed to stop at a stop sign. The Cobalt was driven by Taylor McGaughey, 24, of Lawrenceville, Georgia. McGaughey was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and second-degree vehicular homicide.

According to friend Craig “Huey” Stewart, Kesler’s wife and two children were in the van during the accident. Kesler’s wife Deidre suffered broken bones but is expected to recover. Kesler’s children, his 15-year-old daughter Olivia and 12-year-old son Conrad, were uninjured, according to Stewart.
