PJ Jacobsen’s 4th Annual 4-Hour Memorial Race To Honor Jim Moroney and Tommy Aquino

PJ Jacobsen’s 4-Hour Endurance Series will be honoring Jim Moroney at the 4th Annual Memorial Race. The race is this coming Sunday, October 26, at OVRP in Cuddebackville, NY.

Jim started riding motorcycles on a 1927 30/50 Indian when he was twelve years old. As his passion for motorcycles grew, he began working at a Harley dealership before being drafted into the Korean War.

He and his wife, Carmela, began Moroney’s Harley-Davidson in 1956 after he came home from the army. The business grew from a small start-up to the 26,000 square foot motorcycle superstore that it is today.

As Jim retired in the early 1990’s, his only son Pat began running the business. Pat is an accomplished motorcycle racer and continues his dad’s great enthusiasm for the sport by continually expanding the business, as with his addition of the 1-800-FASTHOG parts service.

Jim passed away on Christmas Day in 2013, but his legacy of motorsports continues today in the many riders that Moroney’s has sponsored throughout the years. Some of these racers include Aaron Yates, Nick Hayden, Roger Hayden, Will Davis, Ken Coolbeth, and PJ Jacobsen.

This year’s race will also feature a tribute to young racer Tommy Aquino, who died tragically in a racetrack accident in California this past February. PJ and Tommy met at a young age, racing 125’s. Thinking about Tommy, PJ said, “He was a great guy, and it’s terrible that he died at such a young age. I want people to remember him as a great friend and an awesome racer.”

We will also be remembering our past honorees: Conner LaFrance, Alex Lyskawa, Rob Gette, and Pete Giamalvo.

The Memorial Race has become a tradition of PJ’s 4-Hour Endurance Series for the past several years. Gates open at 8am Sunday morning. Practice begins at 10am, and the race will start at 11am.
