More, from a press release issued by RBoM Racing:

After last year’s LWT class win in the inaugural N2 Trackdays/WERA Steel City 4-hour endurance race, RBoM Racing made the trek to NJMP for round 1 of the 2017 N2 Trackdays/WERA Endurance series.

A good mix of teams showed up as 24 bikes lined up to take the green flag. The early 9:45am start for the 4-hour race included 8 lightweight bikes (interestingly, all on SV650’s), as well as 12 middleweight bikes and 4 heavyweight bikes, all hoping to take home some of the generous prize money up for grabs.

For 2017, RBoM Racing committed to field two SV650 LWT class entries and it certainly made things interesting in the RBoM pits, if nothing else.

Endurance racing veteran and accomplished SV650 racer Chris Parrish teamed up once again with controversial SV650 racer Simon Buric on the RBoM128 entry. They executed the teams endurance strategy to perfection, setting the fastest LWT lap time while running the entire race on one set of Pirelli SC2 slicks. Bike set-up also allowed Parrish and Buric to run 1.5 hour long stints, with the bike only entering pit lane twice for fuel and a rider change. RBoM128 finished 1st in class and 6th place overall, duplicating last year’s result as the team strives to put a LWT bike onto the overall endurance podium.

The RBoM117 entry, with riders Chris Bays and Michael Copoulos, ran as high as 2nd in class, but persevered thru a lesson from Endurance 101 after a high speed get off on lap 43 required some time-consuming repairs on pit lane. The RBoM117 bike re-entered the race after losing 45 minutes in the pits and rebounded to finish 5th in class (out of 8 LWT entries) and 18th overall.

RBoM Racing is now preparing the bikes for round 2, as the series heads to PIRC on July 15th. The RBoM crew would like to thank N2 Trackdays and their sponsors for putting up the purse money, MDM Pirelli for posting some tire contingency incentives, WERA for facilitating the event, all the competitors that weren’t scared to show up, and the Blue Angels for an awesome sideshow.

RBoM Racing is just a group of motorcycle road racing enthusiasts, basically a “Band of Misfits”, SV650 racers who enjoy racing the old, faithful SV650. There are some youngsters in the band too, but the old guys had to set the bar at NJMP. Rumor has it that the series’ big prize will be at VIR on August 5th, but first we have to get the band back together in Pittsburgh on July 15th. We look forward to seeing who shows up….perhaps it will be a third RBoM entry?
