Chilly in California …

Sonoma, CA – 2018 Has begun! For the first time in 2018, the Genuine Broaster Chicken / American Honda / RoadRace Factory squad came together to participate in a private preseason test at the iconic Sonoma Raceway, in Sonoma California. This test was to be a shake down of sorts for full time superbike rookie, Cameron Petersen. The South African rider has been training by riding motocross in Southern California during the offseason and instructing at American Supercamp. This test however, would be his first attempt at stringing laps together at speed aboard the Honda CBR1000RR SP2. Track conditions were pretty green from a recent hail storm and chilly temps ranging from the mid 40’s to low 60’s.

While Cameron was able to put in a decent amount of laps during the past two days, there is still plenty of work to be done. The primary goals of this two day test were to get Cam set up on the bike and test a few new components for the motorcycle. Now the team heads back to Colorado to prepare for the upcoming official MotoAmerica test at Barber Motorsports Park at the end of March.

Cameron Petersen

“I’m walking away from the first couple of days on the bike with nothing but smiles! Every session I was able to get more and more comfortable with the bike and team. I’m learning a lot and still have a long way to go, but I have the best people in my corner and I know together we are going to have a strong package. I believe it’s going to be a very positive year. I can’t wait to ride the bike again and be back with the crew as we continue to take more steps in the right direction!”

Danny Walker – Team Principal

“This test was important to us for the stand point of getting Cam on the bike and just have him burning laps. The track conditions weren’t going to allow us to push into race pace so we hammered out a long list of testing objectives. Scotty had quite a bit of new components to test while making the adjustments needed to get Cameron comfortable on the bike. Overall, this was a success and I’m pretty pleased with what I saw out there. Cameron is attacking the new bike and adapting well. When conditions allowed it, he was able to push and I was impressed. We came out to California and tested, achieved our objectives, and found a positive way forward in the development of our program for 2018. We have some work to do ahead of the test at Barber, but we’ll be ready.”
