September 26 – 27 2015

Tooele Utah

The final round of the 2015 Utah Sportbike Associations Master of the Mountains Race Series was held September 26 – 27 at MillerMotorsportsPark in Tooele, Utah. Trackstar Racing’s Gauge Rees had the lead in 3 of the Middleweight Classes coming in to the weekend but none of them were locked up yet. Saturday morning practice found him in the Top 3 with some room to improve in the windy conditions. The first race of the day was Moto 2 and Gauge had a 6 point lead in the Championship points. The competition was stacked and holding on to the points lead wasn’t going to be easy. Gauge found himself in 4th place on the last lap needing 3rd to hold the points lead. In the last 4 corners of the last lap Gauge put on a charge for 3rd and made the pass to clinch the Moto 2 season Championship. The 2nd race of the day was Middleweight Superbike. Nursing a sore shoulder Gauge was able to maintain position and claim the Season Championship in that class was well.

Sunday morning was no different, windy conditions were making fast laps very difficult. The Middleweight Superstock Championship was still up for grabs when the flag dropped. Gauge settled in to 2nd position with Teammate Ryan Richardson holding 3rd. They continued this way for the remainder of the race and Gauge was able to win his 3rd Season Championship.

“It was a really tough weekend” said Gauge, “walking in with the lead in 3 classes seems like where you want to be but it puts a lot of pressure on you. Every lap was a battle to maintain position. I was doing the math in my head to know where I had to be to hold the points lead. I tore up my shoulder a little and couldn’t brake as hard as I normally do without a lot of pain so I was really trying to just hang on, hold my points and not make a mistake. The pressure made me race smarter and I learned a lot this weekend. Thanks to all of my competitors this year for making it an amazing season. My Yamaha R6 was perfect all season and the Dunlop tires never let me down.”

Other notable finishes for Trackstar Racing included:

Tony Morgan 3rd in the Production 500, Moto 3 and Production 250 class Championships.

Joshua Smith 1st in the Novice GTU, Combined GTU and Novice GTO Championships.

Ryan Richardson 3rd in King of the Mountain U and Middleweight Superstock Championships.

Trevor Beard 3rd in the Novice GTO Championship.

Gauge Rees 1st in the Moto 2, Middleweight Superbike and Middleweight Superstock Championships.

Michael Hawkins 1st in the Modern Vintage GTU and Formula 40 Championships and a 3rd in the Heavyweight Superbike Championship.

Shane White with a 1st in the Modern Vintage GTO Championship and 3rd in Deseret Dash GTO.

“My guys worked hard all season and really showed what they are made of. We won 9 Championships this year and I couldn’t be more proud of all of them. I have a great mix of riders from first year Novices to seasoned Experts and they all pitch in to help each other whenever its needed. We built some really solid bikes and the support from our suppliers and sponsors kept us on the track and up front all year.” said Team Owner Kelly Rees.

Bart Brejcha Clinches Five Class Championships

Tuesday, Sept 29th 2015

Chicago, IL – The Design Engine Racing Team, this past weekend at BlackHawk Farms Raceway, clinched five Series class titles. The championships were won in the Midwest region of Champion Cup Series (CCS) in all expert middleweight and heavyweight classes.. The team overcame many obstacles and problems this season, including oil on course, multiple crashes, mid season switch from Suzuki to Kawasaki and engine failure, to name a few, yet the team never gave up. By clinching all these class titles for the CCS Midwest region the team is now poised to improve and set new records. The team managed to obtain fastest lap time of the middleweight and heavyweight bikes each race weekend. We credit the team’s success to pre-race preparation, Nitrogen gas filled Pirelli tire pressure, a more organized and prepared rider, fitness program, improved endurance, determination and a bit of risk management.

The team is currently preparing for a mid October Daytona and the Homestead season finale.

Naylor Secures 2015 USBA King Of The Mountain GTU And Overall Championship Titles At Miller

Kinzer Naylor wrapped up the KoM GTU title at this past weekend’s sixth and final round of the 2015 USBA championship. Heading into the final round, Naylor was tied on points with his GTU title rival, MotoStation’s Brian Childree. Naylor started the race from pole on the points-based grid by virtue of having scored more wins in than his title rival.

When the lights went out, Naylor got a blinder of a start, lead the field into the first turn, and immediately build a gap as the field headed the back section of Miller Motorsports Park’s east course. Naylor kept the gap consistent for the first half of the 10-lap race until his paced dropped, and a pair of Triumph 675 riders, Michael Bradshaw and Mark Harper, began to reel in the race leader. Instead of pushing to stay ahead and risk a crash, Naylor chose to settle into third and conserve his energy and tires for a late-race battle for the title, if needed. While this was going on, Childree was circulating in fourth position, but making progress toward Naylor. At the start of the last lap, Naylor missed a gear coming out of turn 1, and was relegated to second place. Naylor regrouped and was able to make a move around the outside going into the penultimate corner and get a good drive out of the final corner and cross the line in third, which was enough to bring home the 2015 USBA King of the Mountain GTU title. In addition to the securing the GTU title, this weekend, Naylor also took the USBA Overall title, wins in the Moto2 and Middleweight Superstock races, and second in the Heavyweight Superbike Race.

Kinzer Naylor; “The GTU race started well for me as I got the hole shot and felt comfortable opening up a gap on the field. On around the fifth lap, my arms had pretty much gone numb. I tried adjusting my suit while maintaining my pace, but that didn’t work very well as I was caught and passed for the lead and I dropped back to third. Although Childree had caught me, I still felt I had the pace to beat him. On the last lap, I executed some sloppy gear changes, which allowed him (Childree) to get by. I stayed on him and looked for any mistake I could take advantage of. Going into Clubhouse corner, I felt I had the better line, and was able to set up a pass around the outside going into the next corner. It was tight, but I knew what was on the line. I got a great drive out of the final corner, and held on to take the title. I had a great weekend and season; I improved my riding, battled against some great competition, and met my goal of bringing the GTU title home to Speed Moto Company. A huge thank you to My Speed Moto Company team for preparing a competitive bike and getting me back on track when things didn’t go as planned, Kabuto Helmets, Dunlop Tires, Vortex, and the Utah Sportbike Association for putting on a great series. See you in 2016!”
