Rob Christman took three podiums during WERA’s sprint event Sunday, April 6, 2014 at NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, LA. Cloudy skies, cool temperatures and a stiff wind made for interesting conditions on the 2.75-mile course for the combined regional sprint and National Challenge round.

Christman rode his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the wins in WERA Superbike/A Superbike Expert, Formula 1 Expert, and Senior Superbike Heavyweight Expert.

Jimmy Merck was the standout for the middleweights, taking the wins in 600/C Superstock Expert and 750/B Superstock Expert with his Suzuki GSX-R600.

Daniel McAlister was Top Novice with four podiums on his Honda CBR600RR, winning 600/C Superstock Novice, 750/B Superstock Novice, 750/B Superbike Novice, and taking third place in 600/C Superbike Novice.

More, from a press release issued by Jimmy Merck’s publicist:

JIMMY MERCK REPEATS TWO FOR TWO AT NOLA

Atlanta, Georgia’s Jimmy Merck repeated his performance from Round One at Roebling Road with a great weekend of racing [April 5-6] at NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana with two wins in as many starts. The weekend marked WERA’s second National Event, with a combined racing schedule of Saturday’s 6 Hour National Endurance race, and Sunday’s National sprint races. This particular weekend saw Jimmy join the Babuska Racing Middleweight team for the Endurance race. The weather looked pretty sketchy for the entire weekend, with a threat of rain and storms. With only two sprint race entries for the weekend, and both on Sunday, it was game on.

Saturday’s weather brought showers initially, and the decision had to be made to start the endurance race on rains or DOT’s. The team went with DOT’s, and three laps in the bike was brought back to install the transponder, putting them next to last. On the second stint with Jimmy riding, the team was able to make up positions to fifth. Next up was Mark Junge, and after Mark’s stint, the team was up to fourth. Merck was up next, and on his 8th lap, the rain started to fall. Not one to be shy with the throttle, Merck proceeded to highside himself to the moon coming out of turn one, remounted, went back to the pit, changed riders and tires, and went back out three laps down. Junge went back out, gaining a lap, and positioned quite well for a strong finish. Unfortunately lightening was near, and the red flag came out with about 30 minutes to spare. The team finished an impressive 3rd overall, and 2nd in class!

Sunday’s practice sessions were ridden in cloudy conditions with a threat of rain. Up first for Jimmy was 600/C Superstock, where after a great start and consistent lap times, Jimmy came out on top with the win by just under 20 seconds.

Up next was 750/B Superstock. Jimmy got the holeshot, and got passed on lap one. Jimmy re-took the lead, and was repassed two laps later. Between lapped riders and a drafting duo, Jimmy took the win .094 seconds!

Jimmy would like to extend special thanks to Frank Babuska, Vince, and Mark Junge for the ride on the Babuska Racing Suzuki GSXR 600 Endurance bike! Jimmy would additionally like to thank Martin and Max at Traxxion Dynamics for their superior knowledge and fabulous suspension putting the bike on rails for the weekend. Jimmy is proud to work with Mark with Vesrah, Mountain Motorsports, Dunlop and Race Tire Services, Livengood, Traxxion Dynamics, Silkolene Oils, Shoei Helmets, Chris with MPH, Vortex Sprockets, Pit Bull, Cycle Gear, his father Jimmy SR, and girlfriend Bobby.
