PODIUMS IN VIRGINIA FOR YOSHIMURA SUZUKI’S HAYDEN AND ELIAS

Yoshimura Suzuki Riders Qualify on the Front Row in VIR Superpole

Chino, CA – Yoshimura Suzuki riders Roger Hayden and Toni Elias had a productive weekend of MotoAmerica Superbike racing at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, Virginia. In Sunday’s Superbike race one both Hayden and Elias scored podium finishes on their Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000s. In race two Elias scored a second podium of the day with third, while Hayden finished fourth.

Saturday was highlighted by both Yoshimura riders using the power and handling of their Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbikes to earn front-row starts.

At the end of the weekend Hayden came away with more points than his Spanish teammate and now sits third in the standings, 21 points out of the series lead. Elias is fourth, just five points back from Hayden.

On Saturday it was an impressive Superpole qualifying session for the Yoshimura Suzuki riders. They both qualified on the front row with Hayden’s 1:24.545 lap time putting him second and Elias rounding out the row with a time of 1:24.662.

“I’m pretty happy,” Hayden said after Superpole. “I haven’t always been too strong here, but this week I have a great feeling with the bike. This morning I did a lot of laps in the 25s, so I feel good for tomorrow. Qualifying wasn’t the greatest, because it’s kind of difficult to get a rhythm, and there’s a lot of guys out there trying to get a tow. It makes things challenging, but I’m happy with the front row. A good start here’s important – it’s a tough place to pass.”

Race one was an intense battle start to finish with Hayden finishing second by just .307 of a second. Elias took third giving the team two out of the three podium spots.

In race two it was Elias’ turn to finish in front of his teammate. The former Moto2 World Champion led much of the first half of the race and was in the hunt for the victory until the final lap. His third-place result in the second leg was the more impressive of Elias’ two podium finishes. Race two’s pace was faster, four seconds quicker over the 25 laps.

“The position was the same as before,” Elias said of his second third-place finish. “But before I wasn’t satisfied, but now I’m really satisfied with this position.”

The picturesque Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin’s Road America will next host the MotoAmerica series on June 3-5, 2016. The races will be televised on beIN SPORTS.

DOUBLE VICTORY FOR POINTS LEADER MAZZIOTTO IN VIRGINIA

Anthony Mazziotto III was in dominant form at Virginia International Raceway, sweeping the weekend’s KTM RC 390 Cup action and walking away with the championship points lead.

The Jimmy Winters Motorsports title hopeful made his VIR ambitions obvious early on. He threw down a 1:41.114 to storm to pole position and continued in unrelenting fashion from there.

On Saturday, the 15-year-old was embroiled a typical, hard-fought KTM RC Cup dogfight. Multiple riders swapped positions back and forth deep into the contest but Mazziotto held a bit in reserve. He executed a late-race escape to ultimately claim victory by 0.521 seconds at the checkered flag.

And on Sunday, the 2014 AMA Horizon Award winner led every single lap up until the race was red flagged and called complete a few laps short of its schedule distance.

As a result of his second and third victories of the season, Anthony now leads the 2016 KTM RC 390 Cup with 128 points to his credit.

“It was an awesome weekend for us,” Mazziotto said. “We made some big changes to the bike throughout the weekend and kept moving forward. I went out in qualifying by myself and put some really hot laps in and got pole. Race 1 was just as good. It was a really tough race. I was doing what I could to set a fast pace, but everyone was getting by me in Turn 1. But I was fast throughout the rest of the track so I was just trying to stay out front. On the last lap I was able to break away and get the win. And the in Race 2, I got a really good start, put my head down, and led the whole way, all the way until the end.

“I really want to thank Jimmy Winters. The Jimmy Winters Motorsports crew was outstanding once again. I’d also like to thank my mom and dad, the whole Yamalube/Westby Racing Team, Jonathan Cornwell at Ohlins, Arai helmets, Markbilt Racebikes, RS Taichi, Yamaha Champions Riding School, and everyone else who supports out effort.”

Round 4 of the 2016 KTM RC 390 Cup will take place at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, on June 3-5.

TEAM RABID TRANSIT PERSERVERES AT VIR

Team Rabid Transit, powered by RSRacecraft, joined the rest of the MotoAmerica contenders at Virginia International Raceway this past weekend for Round 4 of the championship. The weather turned out to be good for race day but proved treacherous at other times throughout the weekend. The high winds took during the periodic storms took their toll on more than one canopy in the paddock.

Sheridan Morais was hoping to come back from his crash and resulting whiplash at New Jersey strong but the weekend took a down turn after some promising laps on Fridays sessions. Morais crashed during Saturday practice resulting in injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the weekend. The team’s KTM rider, Renzo Ferreira, hung in there and flew the team colors for the remainder of the weekend, claiming a respectable 12th place in race two of the KTM RC390 Cup. The remaining team rider, Brandon Cretu, did not attend the round at VIR due to other obligations overseas to participate in the Northwest 200.

Ronnie Saner, Crew Chief, commented:

“No team ever wants to see injuries when it comes to their riders, however, when these occur we have to put safety first. The whole team is obviously disappointed that we could not participate in the races at VIR. We will make good use of the time off and go to Road America at full strength. On a more positive note we are very pleased with the progress of young Renzo in the KTM RC Cup. The team is thoroughly enjoying watching his growth on the motorcycle round by round.”

Team Rabid Transit powered by RSRacecraft would like to thank our sponsors: Yamaha, Brock’s Performance, Evol Technologies, Ohlins, Heroic, Spark Exhaust, Bel Ray, Speedcell, GB Racing, AIM, Pitbull, SBS, Sprint Filter, Dyno Jet, Cox Racing, HT Moto, Drive Systems, Superlite Sprockets, Zero Gravity, Drippin Wet, Fast Frank Racing, Pilot, and HEL Performance.

Wyman brothers earn solid finishes in Virginia for Millennium Technologies/KWR

TUCSON, Ariz. (May 16) — The Millennium Technologies-sponsored Wyman brothers scored solid finishes in this past weekend’s MotoAmerica event at Virginia International Raceway. Kyle grabbed two top-5 Superbike results while Travis finished 2nd and 6th respectively in the Superstock 600 series races.

For the first Superbike session of the weekend, the weather conditions closely resembled those of New Jersey Motorsports Park. The 2.25 mile natural road course through the Virginia trees was soaking wet from an early rain storm.

“Going out in first practice in the rain was bitter-sweet,” Wyman said. “I was sick of riding in the rain after New Jersey, but we also really needed the testing time to sort out the electronics.”

The wet session proved valuable, as Kyle posted the 12th overall fastest time of the session, a massive improvement over the wet race results from a week prior.

As for qualifying, Wyman was keen to earn a spot in Superpole 2, reserved only for the twelve fastest riders in practice. He was forced to go through Superpole 1, missing out by only .140 seconds and qualifying in the 13th position for Sunday’s two Superbike races.

“In Superpole I put in a solid four laps on a new soft tire,” Wyman said. “The last of the four laps was my best one, and that’s when the tire was starting to go off. I think if I had put in a cleaner lap earlier on I would have made it in. I really wanted to make Superpole 2, because it’s just so much fun. It’s exciting to be in the final qualifying shootout and have a chance to put on the super-soft Q-tire.”

As for Sunday’s Superbike races, each of which ran 25 laps, cooler temperatures played a role in tire choice. Wyman opted for the medium front tire as well as a medium rear tire for race one in hopes of maintaining better grip toward the end of the race. He finished 5th in Superbike, and 10th overall on his Millennium Technologies Superbike.

“I got a great start in race one and found myself really close to the front,” Wyman said. “With the medium tire I didn’t quite have the grip in the opening laps to latch on to the group in front of me, so I got shuffled back from the start. Toward the end I had a better pace than the riders ahead of me, but they had already made a big gap.”

Race two was run much later in the day, and temperatures were higher. Wyman chose the soft rear tire and the medium front, hoping for better grip earlier in the race and a better pace throughout. The tires proved better and Kyle finished the 25-laps in race two 9.849 seconds quicker than he had in race one, but it was not good enough for a better result. He finished 5th in class and again 10th overall.

“We made a few adjustments to my K-Tech DDS Pro shock and the tire change in the rear to the soft for race two,” Wyman said. “I instantly had better grip in the beginning and we posted our fastest lap of the weekend during that race. I think we have finally found a path in the bike setup, and I can’t wait to see where it leads for the rest of the season. My Millennium Technologies Yamaha YZF-R1 is becoming more and more fun to ride.”

Travis Wyman snares podium result at Virginia International Raceway

Travis Wyman had an up-and-down weekend at Virginia International Raceway, running a quasi-wet Superstock 600 race on Saturday and a dry race on Sunday. Wyman finished 2nd and 6th in each race, respectively.

Race one began with a microburst of a storm rolling through the track, with heavy rain and winds that uplifted canopies and tents all throughout the race paddock, and soaking the VIR road course. It was a short blast of weather that yielded a sunny sky thereafter, and a drying track that would challenge the riders for 23 laps.

“Race one was one of the most technical races that I’ve ever been in,” Travis said. “Nobody knew what the conditions had in store for us.”

Tire choice proved critical for the race, and Travis made the right call, opting for dry tires on his Millennium Technologies R6 even though the track was wet.

“We made the right tire choice and I settled into a rhythm as the track dried throughout the race. A lot of my competitors had chosen rain tires, and they were fast at first, but as the track dried we just ate them alive. We wound up 2nd, with another podium finish, so I’m happy with the result given the conditions.”

Mechanical gremlins plagued the Harv’s Harley-Davidson/Next Level Cycles sponsored rider in race two, with braking issues in the early stage of the race caused by an early morning warm-up crash.

“Race two I got off to a great start and was leading for the first lap,” Travis said. “I was having difficulties with the brakes and I dropped all the way back to seventh. I was able to get back in the groove and fight my way forward but didn’t have enough time. Turns out the brake problem was lingering damage from the crash I had in morning warm-up. It’s a shame because my K-Tech suspension was working awesome. I’m looking forward to the next round at Road America.”

The fifth round of the MotoAmerica series at Road America is June 3-5, 2016.

More, from a press release issued by Riders Discount/Tuned Racing:

DANVILLE, Virginia (May 17, 2016) — Riders Discount/Tuned Racing had a successful weekend at Virginia International Raceway. Rider Bryce Prince finished third in the challenging conditions of Superstock 600 race one. Race two saw Prince finish at the top of the podium while teammate Jason Aguilar took the third spot on the podium. Prince now carries a 33 point lead to the next round of the Superstock 600 Championship.

“Overall we had a great weekend at VIR,” said Prince. “The weekend started out tough as we qualified fourth. The first race was very tricky as it started pouring rain when we went out for the sighting lap. We made the right decision to stick with dry tires and halfway through the race we were in the lead. I decided to take it easy with five laps to go, and we were able to manage a third place finish. We made a few small changes for race two and really got the bike working well. We were able to take the lead by lap five and continued for the remainder of the race, taking the win by .006 of a second. I couldn’t be happier with how the weekend went. My bike is working great and I can’t thank my team enough for all of the help and support!”

“We had a great weekend at Virginia International Raceway for round three of our season,” said Aguilar. “Our gremlins seemed to continue from the last few rounds with a couple issues in qualifying, but I was confident in our race pace. My team and I were able to get a great suspension setup and despite being close to last off the start, I fought the hardest I ever have to make it up to third with the fastest lap of my class. It was a great double podium for the team and I was very happy to see my teammate take the win. I can’t thank the whole team enough for sticking by me through the tough times and I’m really looking forward to Road America.”

2016 MotoAmerica Superstock 600 Championship Point Standings as of 5/15/16:

1. Bryce Prince, 122 points

2. Dakota Mamola, 89 points

More, from a press release issued by AXcess Racing:

AXcess Racing competes in Round 3 of MotoAmerica’s KTM RC390 Cup series at Virginia International Raceway.

AXcess Racing, LLC riders Brandon Paasch and Jackson Blackmon presented for the third round of MotoAmerica KTM RC 390 Cup at VIR with optimism in their first full professional season as a team. Paasch finished 4th in race one and 2nd in race two continuing to show he is a contender for the championship. Blackmon finished 10th in race one and 5th in race two showing improvement every round. Despite struggling with some setup issues Paasch was able to position himself on the front row with a time of 1:41.874 and Blackmon with a time of 1:43.144.

Although he’s one of the youngest riders on the grid, 14-year-old Jackson Blackmon progressed this weekend, running near the front on a grid of 27 riders. Blackmon is proving to be a real contender in this extremely popular developmental series. “This was a weekend of improving and overall felt great. The team has gotten the bike setup perfectly and I am feeling better and better on it each session,” said Blackmon. “I ended the weekend with a 10th and a 5th. VIR had some weird (weather) conditions but overall was a great weekend of racing!”

According to Paasch, “It was a challenging weekend. Initially I felt I had a good setup and was sitting on provisional pole. In Saturday’s race, as our times got faster I began to struggle with the setup. The team worked hard and we made a few changes for race one. I felt like I had the pace to win but unfortunately the last lap didn’t go as planned. I salvaged a fourth place finish to pick up some points towards the championship. The crew made some changes to the setup for Sunday’s race and in morning warm up the bike felt the best it did all weekend giving me some needed confidence for race two. I had the pace and the bike felt great but unfortunately Sunday’s race was cut short due to a red flag and I had to settle for second. I can’t thank the team enough for their effort. I am looking forward to a great race weekend at Road America.”

“This weekend, in the paddock at VIR, I was impressed with the hard work by all the KTM riders and their families. They are the future of this sport.” Said team owner Laura Ellis. “We are all fortunate MotoAmerica had the vision to create this (light weight, developmental) series.”

In addition to supporting two riders, Ellis and her team AXcess Racing, created the Mini Moto demonstrations held in the MotoAmerica paddock every race weekend. “Our aim is to attract more families and fans to the sport we love. This is where we need to grow an appreciation for roadracing in North America, from the ground up,” says Ellis.

Dustin “Double Duty” Meador Notches Two More Double Top-10 Finishes Aboard The #300 Yamalube/Westby Racing YZF-R1, In Virginia

Tulsa, OK – May 17, 2016 – When you’re one of the team technicians and the fill-in rider at Yamalube Westby Racing, the nickname “Double Duty” is not just a clever moniker, it’s also an apt description of your team responsibilities. And, for Dustin “Double Duty” Meador, the nickname also doubly applies to his knack for recording consistent top-10 finishes in the 2016 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Roadracing Championship, which he did again this past weekend at VIRginia International Raceway in Danville, VA.

For the second road racing event in a row, Dustin filled in for lead rider Josh Day, whose fractured thumb is healing well, but was not quite ready for him to return to racing the #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 Superstock 1000 machine.

Coming off his two top-10 results in the rain at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Dustin was challenged by the tricky, 14-turn, 14-turn, 2.25-mile VIR natural road course, and near-perfect weather conditions that made for fast laps and a much more frenetic race pace than New Jersey presented. But, the talented technician/racer acquitted himself well, qualifying 10th in class, in Saturday afternoon’s Superpole qualifying, and then following that up by running smooth, consistent laps to finish in 7th position in Sunday’s Superstock 1000 Race 1 and notching a solid 8th-place result in Superstock 1000 Race 2 later in the day on Sunday.

“This has been quite an adventure for me,” Dustin said. “I got to race the bike in the rain at New Jersey a couple weeks ago, and then, here at VIR in the dry, and on a very technical track. So, I learned a lot about the bike, that’s for sure. There’s no time to rest on this track. I feel a little bit fatigued after doing the two races today. But, I had a lot of fun, and I got to race with a couple of guys out there. The R1 is amazing to ride. It does everything well.”

The Yamalube/Westby Racing team will be back in action in three weeks as the MotoAmerica Championship travels to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, on June 3 – 5.

Lead rider Josh Day will climb back aboard the #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing R1 at Road America, and resume his duties. When Dustin was asked how he feels about handing the bike back to Josh after his two-round adventure, he said, “We’re here to win races, and Josh is the man to win races for us. We’re all excited to get him back on the bike. We’re looking forward to seeing Josh and that gold, double-zero R1 up front again where it belongs.”

Aprilia HSBK Racing Forges on in Virginia, Maintains Lead in Superstock 1000

Houston, TX – Round Four of MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 took place in Danville, VA (Virginia International Raceway) this past weekend.

Following double victories at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Aprilia HSBK Racing took to the front of the pack in Virginia for another victory in Superstock Race 1, maintaining the series lead on the RSV4 RF as MotoAmerica heads to Road America for the fifth round.

Like many of the US tracks, rider Claudio Corti had limited knowledge coming into Virginia. With a wet first practice Corti was able to learn the track, but would have to wait for the track to dry out to get the bike set-up for race pace. Practice 2 and 3 allowed the HSBK Racing team to make necessary adjustments, good enough to move directly into Superpole 2 where Corti was able to secure the sixth spot overall, and second among Superstock 1000.

During the Sunday warmup, Corti displayed the pace he had in New Jersey, fastest of the Superstock riders. This held through Race 1, where after 25 laps Corti and the RSV4 RF crossed the finish line first in Superstock.

A few hours later Race 2 began with the same promise, with Corti delivering competitive lap times. Ultimately, mechanical issues hindered the potential double victory repeat, with Corti remaining in the points but falling to 7th position.

The team is very happy with the Race 1 victory and the points collected, which keeps Corti and Aprilia HSBK Racing on top of the Superstock 1000 Championship as they travel to Wisconsin for the fifth round. Team owner, Bobby Shek, noted, “The team did an incredible job this weekend. We are performing like a well-oiled machine and working hard to keep the winning momentum going.”

More, from a press release issued by Bell Helmets:

MotoAmerica – VIR International Raceway

It took two races for Bell Helmets’ Cameron Beaubier to find his groove at the fourth round of the MotoAmerica Road Race series. In Race One, Beaubier had a slight off track excursion but rebounded for 4th overall. In Race Two – it was all Beaubier. “That race definitely felt really good to get some redemption after making that mistake I made by running off the track in the first race,” Beaubier said. “It felt great!”

Honorable mention goes out to Josh Herrin who mounted a serious charge in Race One to place his Meen Motorsports Superstock Yamaha in the lead position ahead of all Superbikes. Although short lived, it definitely made a statement about Herrin and his team’s ability to run up front.

Beaubier remains 2nd in the points race behind teammate Josh Hayes. Five rounds remain in the series with Road America next up June 3-5.

TOBC racing’s Danny Eslick wins at VIR!

TOBC racing rider Danny Eslick came back from a crash in Saturday’s race to take the win on Sunday in the Bazzaz Superstock 1000 race two at VIRginia International Raceway, in Alton, Virginia, with the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Series. Eslick rode the TOBC Yamaha YZF-R1 in the 25 bike pack in green track conditions from the weekend storms to victory amid some serious competition.

Team owner Michelle Lindsay said, “We have a fantastic trifecta of rider, crew, and motorcycle. As a team owner I couldn’t ask for a better combination of amazingly talented hardworking individuals. We started the year a bit behind and are doing all we can to make up for lost time. I think this weekends results evidence that we are headed in the right direction.

We are so proud of Danny, it was an especially emotional victory for many on the team here at VIR as we lost our former team owner, my fiancé Jon Couch and his mother here in private plane crash in Sept. 2014. I’m glad we can honor his legacy with a second win here at VIR.”

Frank Aragaki, crew chief, shared, “We are very happy with the Superstock win. After a decent Superpole 2 qualifying session on Saturday the temperatures dropped and Danny struggled with our setup on Sunday. The crash in race 1 came despite the fact he turned one of the quickest Superstock lap times. The temps climbed for the second race and with minor adjustments to the bike he was able to fight for the win. Big props for the crew: James, Tim and Scott all have worked extraordinarily well to get this result. After a slow start to this season the team is now where we want to be.”

Danny Eslick added,”It feels good to get a win finally. I know the TOBC crew and the Yamaha R1 are a winning pair! It feels good to get that first win of the season out of the way and keep the momentum going into Road America. I’m really looking forward to Elkhart lake it is one of the coolest race tracks that we go to!”

As always, we want to thank our sponsors who give us what we need to achieve results! Thanks for your amazing support.
