Adams, Blevins, Kelsey Take Multiple Wins with the CMRA at MotorSport Ranch

Danny Kelsey took five podiums, Daniel Adams and Conner Blevins each took four during CMRA’s round six sprint event on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at MotorSport Ranch.

A great weekend of large sprint grids had high 90 to low 100 degree temperatures with a light breeze making for good track conditions.

Kelsey swept his races yet again, riding his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the win in the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert, RaceworX A Superstock Expert, and HighPerformanceCrew.com A Superbike Expert classes. He took the wins in B Superbike Expert and TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert on his GSX-R750. Danny Kelsey took his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the win in Sunday’s headline race, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert. Kelsey was on it from the start of the race, running a screaming fastest lap of 1:15.027. However, the two Dunlop-shod KTM RC8’s ridden by Derek Wagnon and Ty Howard were right on his tail, with Wagnon turning a blistering fastest lap of 1:15.186 and Howard an equally punishing fastest lap 1:15.228. Kelsey put his head down and tried to stretch out his lead, but Wagnon wouldn’t let him get away. Howard, riding with a still injured knee and shoulder, stayed behind Wagnon, but held off Carlos Lescale and his BMW S1000RR and kept a firm hold on third place. Wagnon went after Kelsey with earnest, Kelsey held him off, and the race leaders’ pursuit of each other kept them running a pace within .5 seconds of the lap record. On the final lap Kelsey made a run for it, slipping Wagnon’s clutches and grabbing the checkers for the win with a margin of just 4 seconds. Howard held onto third, with Carlos Lescale, Brandon Cleland, Brandon Altmeyer, William Guthrie, Billy Gonzales, Brady Ipock, and Sean Gurevich rounding out the top 10.

Brandon Cleland won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 across the finish line during the Formula 1 race. Bringing awareness to finding a cure for Breast Cancer is an important aspect of this race and a donation is made by the CMRA to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each entry in the race. Qualifying for the race is sponsored by 212Decals.com and Howard, Kelsey and Wagnon all received a share of the $150 cash purse. Kelsey said, “My goal for this weekend was to continue working towards the number one championship, and we really thought we had a good opportunity to set the lap record. I was really pleased with my 750 results, because I had some issues with my 1000, so I had to park it and qualify for F1 on my 750. I qualified 2nd, so my qualifying results gave me some good confidence going into my first 750 race. We got the 1000 sorted for the F1 race, and it felt good, I was really happy with my results there as well. My best time was a 1:14.724, a lap record would have been nice, but we got very close. Thank you to all my sponsors: RPSraceteam.com, KMC Controls, GP Suspension, JRI Shocks, Pirelli Tires/South Central Race Center, RS Taichi/Moto Liberty, Motopia, DP Brakes, M4 Exhaust, Shoei, Silkolene, Lone Star Track Days, K’s Motorsports, and Vortex.”

Conner Blevins bested the middleweights, taking home four podiums. Blevins rode his Kawasaki ZX-6R to wins in South Central Race Center C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert and second in TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert and B Superbike Expert.

Daniel Adams swept the lightweight classes, grabbing four wins in D Superstock Expert, Formula 2 Expert, D Superbike Expert, and Lightweight Twins Expert with his Suzuki SV650.

On the Novice grids, David Napier spurred his Suzuki GSX-R750 on to go five for five in his classes, taking the wins in Lone Star Track Days B Superstock Novice, OnRoad OffRoad Suspension A Superstock Novice, North Texas Superbikes A Superbike Novice, Body Evolution Fitness Center Formula 40 Heavyweight Novice, and North Texas Superbikes B Superbike Novice
