Kelsey Goes Five for Five Again at Texas World Speedway with the CMRA

Danny Kelsey took five podiums during CMRA’s round seven sprint event on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Texas World Speedway, College Station, TX. A great weekend with over 600 sprint entries was greeted with hot, humid conditions, with low 100 degree temperatures with a light breeze making for fast track conditions.

Kelsey swept his classes yet again with his Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000, winning the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert, RaceworX A Superstock Expert, and HighPerformanceCrew.com A Superbike Expert classes. He took the wins in B Superbike Expert and TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert on his Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R750.

Danny Kelsey took his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the win in Sunday’s headline race, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert. Kelsey was on it from the start of the race taking the lead with Carlos Lescale on his BMW S1000RR commanding second. Billy Gonzalez and William Guthrie, also on BMW S1000RRs, vied for third place as the BMW armada hunted Kelsey down. However, Kelsey slipped loose from the BMWs turning a blazing fastest lap of 1:44.915 on lap 4 of the race, and stretching his lead to just over 12 seconds ahead of second place at the checkers. Lescale held onto second, Billy Gonzalez captured third, with William Guthrie, Eric Williams, Peyton Inge, Joseph Caruso, Brady Ipock, Bobby Davies, and Sean Gurevich rounding out the top 10.

Eric Williams won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 across the finish line during the Formula 1 race. Bringing awareness to finding a cure for Breast Cancer is an important aspect of this race and a donation is made by the CMRA to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each entry in the race. Qualifying for the race is sponsored by 212Decals.com and Gonzalez, Kelsey and Lescale all received a share of the $150 cash purse.

Marcus McBain, Kelsey’s crew chief said, “This was our sixth race weekend in 10 weeks and we were exhausted. The first 750 race of the day, B Superstock was really tough, and after that race was done, our goal was to just get through the rest of the day with no incidents. We were pleased with the results, especially the F1 race where Danny had a 12.8 second margin of victory over second place. Now we have a couple of weeks off, and it will be nice to have some down time to get ready for the next round at Cresson. Thank you to all of our sponsors: RPSraceteam.com, KMC Controls, GP Suspension, JRI Shocks, Pirelli Tires/South Central Race Center, RS Taichi/Moto Liberty, Motopia, DP Brakes, M4 Exhaust, Shoei, Silkolene, Lone Star Track Days, K’s Motorsports, and Vortex.”

Conner Blevins rocked the middleweights, taking home four podiums. Blevins rode his Kawasaki ZX-6R to wins in South Central Race Center C Superstock Expert, C Superbike Expert and second in TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert and B Superbike Expert.

On the Novice grids, David Napier spurred his Suzuki GSX-R750 to grab five podiums again in his classes, taking the wins in OnRoad OffRoad Suspension A Superstock Novice, North Texas Superbikes B Superbike Novice, North Texas Superbikes A Superbike Novice, Body Evolution Fitness Center Formula 40 Heavyweight Novice, and second in Lone Star Track Days B Superstock Novice.
