Geoff May was the fastest rider during Friday’s first qualifying session for the 75th Daytona 200 by Victory at Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Riding his Dunlop-shod, Project May Day/Sportbike Track Time-sponsored Yamaha YZF-R6, May lapped the 3.51-mile infield road course in 1:50.627, which was quicker than the 1:50.636 he turned to claim pole position for last year’s Daytona 200. May finished third in that race.

Final qualifying, which will see the 52-rider field separated into smaller groups for faster and slower riders, is due to begin at 1:30 p.m. local time.
