Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Classic Course, Las Vegas

Oct. 8-9, 2016

Christopher Carron and David “Aussie Dave” Anthony took home the Formula One wins as the WERA West Presented by Lucas Oil Products concluded its 2016 season with a doubleheader round on the 1.8-mile Classic Course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Riding his Pirelli-shod Kawasaki ZX-10R, Carron jumped into the lead of the six-lap headlining race from the start and stayed there, turning a best lap of 1:19.771 on his way to a clear 6.816-second margin of victory.

The battle for second was fierce, but Steve Zoumaras on his ZX-10R seized the runner-up spot on the penultimate lap and held it to the end, ahead of Curtis Biegel and his Yamaha YZF-R1.

Carron also took the A Superstock win on Saturday over Biegel, this time by a narrow 0.736 seconds, and took second to Biegel in the A Superbike race by an even narrower margin of 0.017 seconds. Justin Simons took third in A Superstock, and Zoumaras took third in A Superbike.

On Sunday, Anthony showed up on his Dunlop-shod Kawasaki ZX-10R, and Jeremy Toye borrowed one of Zoumaras’ ZX-10R Superstock-spec racebikes and gridded up for all three big-bore races.

In the A Superstock race, Anthony edged Toye by 0.363 seconds, then did it again in Formula One, winning by 0.994 seconds after turning the fastest race lap of the weekend, a 1:17.235. Toye extracted a measure of revenge in the A Superbike race, winning over Anthony by a relatively comfortable margin of 1.629 seconds.

Carron took third in A Superstock and Formula One on Sunday, with Sahar Zvik completing the podium in A Superbike.

Carron’s performances over the weekend were good enough to send him home with the A Superstock and A Superbike titles in his first year of liter bike competition. Carron also finished second in Formula One, behind only Corey Sarros, who had sealed the title at the prior round.
