California Speedway Names New President DIS VP Gillian Zucker to lead Southern California facility FONTANA, Calif. – Gillian Zucker, who currently serves as Vice President of Business Operations and Development at Daytona International Speedway and once served as Assistant General Manager for the High Desert Mavericks Baseball Club in Adelanto, Calif., has been named President of California Speedway. John Saunders, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of International Speedway Corporation (ISC) made the announcement today. Zucker, 36, replaces William G. Miller, who announced his resignation from the Speedway in March. She will assume her duties July 5th. “Gillian is a creative and talented individual who brings a tremendous wealth of experience and leadership to her new position,” said Saunders. “We look forward to Gillian continuing to apply her tremendous passion and knowledge of motorsports in her new position at California Speedway.” “I look forward to returning to the West Coast and working with California Speedway’s talented team to take California Speedway to the next level,” said Zucker. “California Speedway has a bright future ahead and I’m pleased to be part of it.” As President, Zucker will be responsible for all strategic planning and day-to-day operations of the facility including event execution and fan development. Originally from Englewood, N.J., a suburb of New York City, she is the fourth president in California Speedway history (Greg Penske, Scott Atherton, Bill Miller). As Vice President of Business Operations in Daytona, Zucker was responsible for overseeing business operations for Daytona International Speedway which includes sales and marketing, hospitality sales and management, ticket operations, interaction with sanctioning bodies, broadcast partners, sponsors and vendors and coordinating the track budget. Her responsibilities further include event operations such as traffic, parking and guest amenities as well as oversight of DAYTONA USA, the official attraction of NASCAR. Zucker additionally assumes corporate responsibilities in new business development across all 12 ISC facilities exploring strategic opportunities with the music, action sports, travel and entertainment industries. She also has played a pivotal role in ISC’s efforts to develop a new motorsports facility in the New York City market. Zucker joined ISC in 1998 as director of business development for the Kansas Speedway prior to the ground breaking on that facility. She was promoted to vice president of operational development soon after. Among her duties at the track, Zucker wrote and executed the business plan that launched Kansas Speedway. She established that track’s ticket sales and pricing, marketing and public relations efforts and hired and trained the track’s directors. Later, her responsibilities expanded to include work at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill., in an advisory position, while also launching that track’s start up efforts. In addition to her stint as assistant general manager for the Single A California League High Desert Mavericks (1993-94), Zucker has held a variety of minor league baseball positions including assistant general manager for the Durham Bulls Baseball Club in Durham, N.C. (1995-98), where she oversaw public and media relations, stadium operations and administration, ticket sales and promotions. Zucker also served as general manager for the Sultans of Springfield Baseball Club in Springfield, Ill., (1994) and the Lansing Lugnuts Baseball Club of Lansing, Mich.
