ZERO MOTORCYCLES AND HOLLYWOOD ELECTRICS TO COMPETE IN THE PIKES PEAK INTERNATIONAL HILL CLIMB — Two Join Forces to Create New Electric Motorcycle Division — SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Zero Motorcycles and Hollywood Electrics, leaders in all-electric motorcycles, announced they will partner to participate in the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on June 30, 2013, in Cascade, Colo. This year marks the first ever Electric Motorcycle Division in PPIHC’s 90 year history. Hollywood Electrics will organize and manage the efforts with motorcycles and technical support from Zero Motorcycles. Hollywood Electrics will be entering several different model Zero Motorcycles’ in the event including a number of stock and modified motorcycles. Hollywood Electrics has been an -authorized Zero Motorcycles dealer for the past four years and has been Zero’s #1 dealership in sales as well. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb began in 1916 and is the second oldest motor sports race in America. The PPIHC is a long-standing tradition in the Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. The race takes place on a 12.42 mile course beginning at 9,390 feet with 156 turns and ending at the 14,110 foot summit of Pikes Peak. One of the main obstacles of the race is the increasingly thin air that causes slows reflexes, diminished muscle strength and 30 percent reduction of power for internal combustion engines as competitors advance up the peak. The electric motorcycle division will have an advantage with the all-electric bikes not experiencing the reduction in power that the bikes using fuel will be up against. “We are breaking new ground with electric motorcycle racing; it’s the involvement and competition between the teams and riders that makes it fun. We’ve put together a great team of riders from various motorsports backgrounds and skill levels. It will be interesting to see how each combination of rider and bike tackles the Peak,” said Harlan Flagg of Hollywood Electrics. “At such an early stage of competitive electric racing, the low cost of entry makes it appealing as even the stock bikes are very competitive and there is little maintenance and incidental costs, a significant consideration for racers on a budget. We intend to show fans, other racers and the public at large that it is easy to get involved in one way or another.” Participants entering in the all-new Electric Motorcycle Division include Aaron Frank, Editor of Motorcyclist magazine, who has 15 years of competitive roadracing experience and has shown an increasing interest in electric motorcycles over the last several years. Other riders include Jeremiah Johnson, Brandon Nozaki Miller, Jeff Clark, and Nathan Barker. Jeremiah Johnson, with Team BE-EV.com, participated in two TTXGP events last year on Zero Motorcycles’, this year he is fielding his own 2013 Zero S for the PPIHC event with more racing plans to follow. Brandon Nozaki Miller made headlines setting three Land Speed Records last year at the 2012 Bonneville Shootout at the Bonneville Salt Flats on his modified 2012 Zero S ZF6. Jeff Clark has participated in the San Felipe 250, Baja 500 and 1000 and will be riding his own modified 2013 Zero FX. Nathan Barker hails from Australia and is looking forward to his first professional road race to the top of Pikes Peak aboard his own 2013 Zero FX. Hollywood Electrics has been working with Zero Motorcycles since they opened their doors in August 2009 as Zero’s first Southern California dealership. For the second year in a row, Hollywood Electrics was named “Top Dealer” by Zero Motorcycles. Hollywood Electrics has worked with Zero Motorcycles and consumers to push the idea that the electric revolution is here to stay by designing and creating custom Zero Motorcycles since the beginning allowing customers to have a unique and individual motorcycle while still enjoying the benefits of owning an all-electric motorcycle. In addition to Hollywood Electrics, Zero Motorcycles dealer network has grown to over 50 dealers in the US and Canada alone as well as a very robust and growing dealer base in Europe.
