WEBSTER WINS AFTER AGONY FOR REEVES AT SILVERSTONE

Castrol Suzuki pair Steve Webster and passenger Paul Woodhead took victory in an action-packed race at Silverstone on Saturday in round three of the Eastern Airways Sidecar Championship.

But luckless brothers Tim and Tristan Reeves missed out on a second successive victory in the championship when they retired with four laps to go while leading and after setting the fastest lap of the race.

Race winner Webster said: “I thought I just about had Tim worked out but I was really struggling to make a pass on him. Once he went out I just concentrated on staying ahead of the battle behind and made sure of the win.”

Greg Lambert returned from the Isle of Man TT races to take a dramatic second place on his Dalepak Suzuki, passing Derek Brindley on the final lap of the 12-lap Silverstone encounter.

“I’m over the moon to take second,” said Lambert. “It’s been a tough week on the Isle of Man but we finished both races over there and to come back and take second place here is fantastic.”

Behind third-placed Brindley on the Readymix Suzuki came Yamaha-mounted Bill Philp with hard-charging Richard Gatt fifth after holding third place in the early stages on his GRS Suzuki.

The team’s observed a one-minute silence prior to the race in memory of passenger Paul Cowley who lost his life 10 days ago, during practice for the 2004 Isle of Man TT races.

Eastern Airways Sidecar Championship, round three, race one result (12 laps 37.56 miles): 1 Steve Webster (Suzuki) 24m 39.026s, 2 Greg Lambert (Suzuki) 24m 43.600s, 3 Derek Brindley (Suzuki) 24m 44.144s, 4 Bill Philp (Yamaha) 25m 02.375s, 5 Richard Gatt (Suzuki) 25m 05.351s, 6 Bryan Pedder
