VETMotorsports will wrap up their 2013 wounded combat veterans outreach this week during the WERA Motorcycle Roadracing Grand National Finals at Barber Motorsports Park. Five local Birmingham-area combat veterans will be placed into the Navy SeaBee Team 670 pit crew. The team is competing in the National Endurance Series 4-hour event this Thursday, October 24th. VETMotorsports non-clinical outreach has placed wounded combat veterans into the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series in AMA Pro Racing, but this is the first endurance team effort for VETMotorsports. The program has reached out to the Birmingham-area veteran community with the assistance of the past program participants, the USMC’s Wounded Warrior Regiment and the Birmingham Warrior Alliance Project. Navy SeaBee Team 670 owner Randy Woodward himself is a Navy Seabee combat veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. Woodward served two tours in Iraq and was wounded in an IED blast in Iraqi during his second tour. Navy SeaBee Team 670’s crew chief Bryan Roller served on USS O’Bannon and was deployed to the Persian Gulf before and after Operation Desert Storm. Joining Woodward and Roller will be combat veterans traveling from as far as Childersburg, TN. “WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is very excited to have wounded combat veterans participating as pit crew for the final round of the WERA National Endurance Series presented by Lucas Oil on Thursday, October 24th at Barber MotorsportsPark where the 41st Annual WERA Grand National Finals will be taking place,” stated Evelyne Clarke, CEO of WERA Motorcycle Roadracing. “To be able to have these men and women who served this country and paid a price that can never be repaid is a true honor and privilege. Thanks to Navy SeaBee Team 670 and VETMotorsports for getting this together and giving these soldiers this opportunity.” “Earlier this year VETMotorsports connected with Randy Woodward on the WERA Forum, and later met with him about an endurance team effort crewed by wounded combat veterans,” added Peter Cline, Executive Director and Founder of VETMotorsports. “Woodward fully understood the efforts that VETMotorports is making to actively engage the local wounded veteran community. We wrapped up our successful AMA Pro Racing outreach at Laguna Seca last month, and I can’t think of a better way to cap off our two-wheel outreach with a 4-hour endurance team effort assisting the Navy SeaBee Team 670.” About VETMotorsports: VETMotorsports is a recognized 501c3 tax-exempt outreach program.
