Preparations for 2016 Racing Season Underway

TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH (February 2, 2016) — The staff of Utah Motorsports Campus has moved into the former Miller Motorsports Park facility to begin operations for the 2016 racing season.

Utah Motorsports Campus is managing the facility on behalf of Tooele County while the procedures to sell the facility take place.

“It’s nice to finally be moving in,” said Willem Geyer, General Manager. “We have an awful lot of work to do to get this facility ready to go racing, but we have a great staff and we’ll get it done. Most of all, we’re just happy to be here and looking forward to putting on a great season of racing for our fans and racers.”

The first racing event of the season will be an amateur event for the locally-based Utah Region of the National Auto Sport Association (NASA Utah) on March 12-13, and there will be races scheduled almost every weekend between then and October.

The first major event of the season will be the sixth annual appearance of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series on May 21-22. Other major events scheduled this year include the MotoAmerica (AMA/FIM) Superbike Challenge on June 24-25, a six-hour endurance race presented by NASA Utah on August 6-7, the Pirelli World Challenge Championships on August 13-14 and an historic double-header event for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West on September 10-11.

Other events scheduled during the season include a major national karting event, the MaxSpeed U.S. Open, on June 24-25; the ever-popular 11th annual AHRMA Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix for vintage motorcycles (Sept. 3-4), the track’s longest-running annual event; and the annual visit from the Porsche Club of America (Sept. 17-18).

Local racing will include an eight-race championship for NASA Utah, a six-race title chase for the Utah Sport Bike Association’s Vortex Master of the Mountains Series, 15 races (two Icebreaker races and a 13-round championship) for the Utah Kart Championship and five-round series for both the Utah Region of the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Racing Series and the Utah Supermoto Championship.

Details on ticket prices, options and purchasing methods will be announced in the near future.
