Braselton, GA (October 16, 2004) – The first qualifier for the 2004 Suzuki Worldwide GSX-R Cup Final started off strong and finished even stronger. Spaniard Javier Fores finished the first lap with the fastest time of 1:30.382 and American Brian Stokes followed with a 1:30.556. Fores remained strong throughout the twenty-five minute qualifier and broke the 1:30 barrier on lap four with a time of 1:29.174. A few minutes later he set an even better time at 1:28.651. This remained the fastest time for the remainder of the first qualifier.

“I’m really happy about setting the fastest time. This track is quite a bit different than the tracks back home,” explained Fores. “There are a lot of elevation changes here and there’s only one track like that in Spain so I’m happy.”

About twelve minutes into the event German Martin Bauer came into the pits to change his tire to see if he could put in a good lap. A few minutes later he crossed the line with a time of 1:29.493. Not to be outdone on his ‘home’ track, American Jake Holden squeezed out a 1:28.752 in the last few minutes to overtake Bauer with the second fastest lap of the first qualifier.
