Christman, Prince And Rapp Star With CVMA At Chuckwalla (Updated)

The first road racing of 2015 took place this past weekend at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway during Round 4 of CVMA’s 7-round Winter Series January 17-18, 2015. Racers from all over (including quite a few AMA license holders looking for seat time before the start of the new MotoAmerica series) flocked to Desert Center, CA, to try their hand at the 2.68-mile, 17-turn circuit.

Saturday’s Formula Middleweight race was a six-lap slug-fest starring Bryce Prince, David Anthony, Andrew Zabzdyr, Brian Short, and wild-card rider Steve Rapp racing a Tuned Industries Yamaha YZF-R6. Rapp took the lead early on and set a blistering pace that the competition simply couldn’t match. That left Bryce Prince and David Anthony to scrap for second, with Prince securing the second spot on the podium. Rapp didn’t enter Sunday’s race, leaving Prince to take first, followed by Andrew Zabzdyr and Brian Short. Yamaha equipment dominated the Formula Middleweight class, with R6s filling the spots all the way back to 11th place.

Prince did well all weekend and stacked four wins, but his best performance was in Sunday’s 10-lap Middleweight Shootout, where he led flag-to-flag with consistent sub-1:50 lap times. His best lap of 1:47.085 set a new record for the class. Prince’s teammate Jason Aguilar came in second after working his way past AP MotoArts’ Andrew Zabzdyr, who took third.

“The weekend went great for Tuned Racing,” says Prince. “I can’t thank Mike Ponds and Chris Waters enough for all their help. I went faster in Sunday practice than I did in Saturday’s races, which led to a new 600 track record.”

Rob Christman continues to make the trek from Colorado to Desert Center every month, and continues to collect wins. He won Formula Open both days on his GSX-R1000, followed by CVMA number 1 plate holder Bill McCoy in second on his S1000RR and James Romero III on his BMW in third.

The biggest grid of the weekend was Amateur SuperSport Middleweight, proof positive that the club is growing. Saturday’s grid was 9 rows deep, but in the end Kawasaki ZX-6R mounted Adam Ayers and Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted Alex Villarreal split wins each day leaving Ryan Houck on his Yamaha YZF-R6 in 3rd.

Racing recommences at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway the weekend of February21-22, 2015. CVMA offers two full days of racing every race weekend and also includes Saturday qualifying and a wide variety of classes to choose from. Additionally, CVMA offers free reciprocity as a means of encouraging racers from other clubs to come out and compete.

More, from a press release issued by Tuned Racing:

Tuned Racing Racks Up Six Wins at Chuckwalla Valley Racing Association

Tuned Racing went to Chuckwalla for some preseason testing and won every race they entered this weekend at CVMA’s January race. Bryce Prince brought home 4 wins, with Steve Rapp and Jason Aguilar contributing 1 win each. Starting with Saturday’s SuperSport Middleweight race, Bryce Prince grabbed the lead on the second lap and checked out for the team’s first win, with new Tuned Racing rider, Steve Rapp, taking 2nd. Saturday’s Formula Middleweight saw a reversal of those finishing positions with Steve Rapp getting his first win on a Tuned Racing Yamaha R6. The team’s final race of the day had Jason Aguilar bringing in the win, this time in Open SuperSport.

On Sunday, Bryce started a new winning streak, taking another win in Supersport Middleweight. The Middleweight Shootout resulted in a 1-2 finish with Prince taking the win and Aguilar taking 2nd. Bryce Prince’s 1:47.085 lap time in the Shootout gives him the lap record in both directions for the Middleweight Shootout. Bryce capped a perfect day by winning the Formula Middleweight race.

Tuned Racing also welcomes new racer Jeremy Lasater. Coming from a motocross background, Jeremy rode Chuckwalla for the first time this weekend. He is quickly getting up to speed, and his 1:51 laptimes were impressive for a rider at only his 4th race weekend. Jeremy’s best finish was a 5th place in the Middleweight Shootout where he was in a close battle for 4th place. Jeremy will be contesting the MotoAmerica SuperStock 600 class for Tuned Racing this year.

Steve Rapp: “Thank you again to Tuned Racing for having me out racing this weekend at Chuckwalla. The Dunlop GPA’s are absolutely great! There was minimal changes and with the limited practice time I had, and we were still able to dial the bike in. The tires felt great, comfortable with clear progression.”

Mike Pond:”Had a great time at CVMA doing preseason testing. It is amazing to me how well Dunlop tires work. Even last years GPA’s worked great and were able to put us on the box against the latest tires out there. I’m very thankful for all the support from our sponsors and friends.”

Bryce Prince:”I had a great first weekend of 2015 with Tuned Racing. I cannot thank Mike Pond and Chris Waters enough for all their help and support. It was very exciting to bring home 4 wins and set a new Track Record.”

Tuned Racing thanks all of its sponsors: Tuned Industries, Graves Motorsports, Dunlop Tires, Solarmax Technology, Galfer Brakes, Worxxx Performance and Machine, Drive Systems USA, Torco Advanced Lubricants, Motoyard.com, Let’s Ride Trackdays, Zero Gravity Racing Corporation, Dynojet, VNM Sportgear, EFSigns.com, SBKPaint.com, Optimal Racing Bodywork, SpeedAngle, Shorai Batteries, ACT Leathers, NEXX-USA, Onyx Oil Service and Scott’s Plumbing.
