Traxxion Dynamics Unveils New AK-20 Axxion Cartridge Kits

AMA Pro Racer Chris Peris takes delivery of first set

Traxxion Dynamics is extremely proud to announce the release of their completely new AK-20 Axxion Cartridge Kits. These are 100% complete bolt-in kits, are supersport legal in every US racing organization, and can be installed by anyone with basic mechanical skills. They will come complete with springs to suit the rider’s weight, and oil. An optional special tool kit is available for do-it-yourselfers.

The idea of a complete cartridge kit was hatched by Traxxion’s President, Max McAllister in 1999. After several failed attempts with vendors, McAllister decided to purchase of a set of Haas CNC machinery to attempt the manufacture himself. “Buying the machinery isn’t the hard part, believe it or not. The key ingredient is the programmer, and luckily for us, Delta Airlines laid off a brilliant programmer who is both excellent with CNC Mills and CNC Lathes.

“Chris Presley was the missing link to our program, and he is Manager of CAD/CAM Operations at Traxxion full time now. I have also hired on a full time CNC Operator, Jason Painter, who is a recent Atlanta transplant from the Buffalo area. Also, Lee Spitler was promoted from Service Technician to Production Supervisor to round out the staff.”

The new cartridges are manufactured completely in house at Traxxion now. “The only way to get the quality I demanded, was to be able to inspect every part right as it came off the machine, and then stop the machine if any tolerance began to wander”. The cartridges will feature 12.5mm cartridge rods, and a 20mm body. According to McAllister, “The 25mm cartridge craze
is just pure hype. I have a detailed question and answer FAQ on the homepage of our site that explains the significant advantages of 20mm cartridges have over 25mm. The OEMs have chosen them for good reasons.”

The AK-20s Axxion Cartridge Kits will have the following features:

6061 T-6 Cartridge Rods:

Precision straightened to .002″ or less on the overall length (stock can be as much as .015″!).

Centerless ground with maximum OD deviation of +/-.0005″.

Type III Hard coat anodized to reduce contamination of the suspension fluid.

6061 T-6 Cartridge Bodies:

Precision turned and bored

Precision honed using Sunnen MB-1660 to hold tolerance of +/-.0005″ (stock
can be as much as .003″!).

Type III Hard coat anodized to reduce contamination of the suspension fluid.

Patent Pending self-centering, sealed, floating bearing assembly that virtually eliminates any drag from the cartridge assembly, even under severe braking.

Complete Axxion Compression Valve Assembly.

Complete Axxion Rebound Assembly with relocated top out spring to maximize reduction of unsprung weight.

Traxxion Dynamics Omni Springs

This state of the art system uses a small, lightweight spring that is held centered by the cartridge and an injection molded spring buffer. The spring does not touch the inner wall of the fork tube, which dramatically reduces contamination and flaking of the springs into the fork oil. It also dramatically reduces internal drag.

The kits require no modification to any stock part, and can be removed and the fork put back to stock when the owner decides to sell the machine. The kits are modular, and can be retrofitted to your next bike. Also, any length and thread detail can be made with a 7-10day lead time for no extra charge. Applications are currently available for all late model sportbikes, including the ’05s, and will available for SV650s, Sport Standards, and dirttrackers within two weeks. Right after that will come fitment to Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

The AK-20s will be priced approximately 50% lower than other kits currently on the market which are considered to be “unobtanium” for racers and trackday riders. AMA Pro racer Chris Peris took delivery of the very first set of forks with the AK-20s in them and has every intention to put them on the box in the first weekend of racing at Daytona next month.

“The key mission of our company has always been to put suspension components into the hands of racers and enthusiasts that are as good as anything a factory rider would have, at a price that didn’t make it unrealistic for them to buy. With the AK-20s, I hope we have accomplished that goal”.
