TOYOTA SIGNS AS AMA MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP SPONSOR LAS VEGAS, Nevada The 2005 AMA Pro Racing Championship Awards Banquet held (November 20) at Paris Las Vegas culminated in the announcement that Toyota has signed as the new series sponsor of the AMA Motocross Championship. Beginning in 2006 the series will be called the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship presented by FMF. The signing of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship presented by FMF sponsorship helps round out Toyota’s major entrance into the world of off-road motorcycle racing. The automaker also recently signed as a sponsor of the AMA Arenacross Series, as well as official truck of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series. “We’re excited to have Toyota come on board as series sponsor of motocross,” said John Farris, AMA Pro Racing Vice President of Commercial Development. “Fans of AMA Motocross are faithful supporters of the sport’s sponsors and we’re confident that Toyota will reap major benefits from their involvement. Toyota’s investment in this category is a clear validation of the growing potential associated with AMA properties. AMA Motocross has seen tremendous growth in recent years and this sponsorship, driven by Toyota’s aggressive activation plans, should contribute to its ongoing expansion.” Farris added that the sponsorship is a multi-year commitment. The AMA Motocross Championship is one of the most popular racing series in motorsports. The championship, which will celebrate its 35th season in 2006, had another record season of attendance with nearly 260,000 fans attending its 12 rounds in 2005 and millions more watched the series by way of national and international television coverage. Ricky Carmichael is the defending AMA Motocross Champion and Ivan Tedesco is the No. 1 plate holder in AMA Motocross Lites (formerly 125). “A significant number of young people have adopted the ‘motocross lifestyle’ and we feel our involvement in the category will ensure that Toyota is front and center among this important consumer,” said Brian Smith, corporate manager, truck operations, Toyota Motor Sales. “Trucks and motorcycles have a natural relationship. Motorcycle riders and fans are dedicated truck buyers and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with them.” As part of the sponsorship agreement Toyota will have a strong presence at all rounds of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship presented by FMF. Product displays featuring Toyota vehicles will be part of the AMA Motocross Championship as well as fan ride and drive opportunities at selected rounds. Toyota will also be a major advertising supporter of the 2006 television package. “Toyota has made clear their intention on growing the sports of AMA Motocross, Supercross and Arenacross,” added Farris. “We feel good that a powerful brand like Toyota recognizes the marketing value and overall potential of AMA Championship Racing. We’re looking forward to a long, productive and mutually beneficial relationship.” Stay posted to www.amamotocross.com for information on Toyota promotions throughout the coming racing season.
