Tornado Bait Racing Auctions Unique Sharpie Bodywork for Charity

Kansas City, MO – What do koi fish, Dunlops and a batch of colorful eyeballs have in common? Quite a lot when they’re all part of a limited edition, one-of-a-kind AMA Pro Racing Daytona Sportbike. To support their friend, fellow racer and graphic designer Jamie Hall, Tornado Bait Racing is auctioning a custom-designed set of Armour Bodies race fairings to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The bodywork, which was raced during the AMA Road America round, is completely covered in Sharpie art. All hand drawn by Hall, the wild design features an exotic fish, a Chinese dragon, tornadoes and the mantra “MORE GAS. LESS BRAKE.”

Tornado Bait Racing’s Ron Mears presented the idea of Sharpie-covered bodywork to his friend after seeing the amazing helmet designs Jamie was creating using Sharpie markers and hearing about his “Believe” campaign. “I wanted to share Jamie’s art and talent with a broader audience. What better way to do that than on a race motorcycle at an AMA event, up close and personal with our fans. It’s truly motorcycle art. By auctioning the bodywork, we also hope to raise funds for MDA.” Hall, a former AMA racer, was recently diagnosed with two types of Muscular Dystrophy.

The Sharpie Bike drew crowds of admirers and photographers during the Road America Fan Walk. Hall spent about two months on the design, incorporating the team’s trademark tornado logo, along with Hawaiian flowers, a chain and random geometric renderings. The eBay auction runs through July 4, 2014. 100% of the proceeds will go to the MDA.

Mears ran the bodywork during both Daytona Sportbike races at the Road America round. A minor lowside in Sunday’s race, however, added a few scuffs and some character to the right side. Photos of the bike can be seen in the eBay auction linked here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141329584426?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#viTabs_0
