Tommy Hayden took his first AMA Supersport win of the 2003 season and the sixth Supersport race win of his career Sunday at rainy Road America.

Hayden ran a smart race, paced himself as several other racers fell and finally passed his younger brother Roger Lee Hayden with less than two laps remaining to give the Kawasaki ZX-6RR its first AMA Supersport race win.

Erion Honda’s Roger Lee Hayden led from the start, rode very well throughout the race but could not match the speed of his more experienced brother in the latter stages. The younger Hayden was happy with the best AMA Supersport finish of his career.

Damon Buckmaster raced at the front for the entire 10 laps but seemed content to ride his own pace to secure third-place points and pull closer to Championship leader Jamie Hacking, who finished fifth behind Erion Honda’s Alex Gobert.
