Aprilia Surprises at WSIR Los Angeles, CA Ademar Nunes (#225) takes three podium finishes at WSIR (Willow Springs International Raceway) this past weekend during a surprise effort while riding his brother’s race-prepped Aprilia RSV1000. His most notable finishes were 2nd place in BOTT Heavyweight and 2nd place in Formula Twins; both times being required to start from the very back of the grid and losing only to Kenny Kopecky (#27), the newly crowned 2005 WSMC Champion. With this being Nunes’s first time on a V-Twin, or anything bigger than a 600cc for that matter, the results were a definite surprise. “My big brother [Amauri Nunes], bought the bike for dirt cheap a few months ago because it had some cosmetic damage. He added his selection of aftermarket race-legal parts, tuned it and asked if I’d be interested in racing it at the track. I was no fool to turn that down! Saturday was my first track day on the bike and in a matter of only two sessions we were already turning 1’26″ lap times.” With most of the fine tuning and Dyno work done ahead of time at Spectrum Motorsports in Irvine, CA, final adjustments were made during Saturday’s tests at the track. Bike owner and Mechanic, Mr. Amauri Nunes, commented: “The Dyno work helped a lot. We were able to scrape up quite a few extra ponies. We had to factor in altitude differences and I think we found the right formula and compensated just the right amount. Next round we will try to come with some gearing changes, more tire selection, additional suspension changes from GP Suspension and maybe more Dyno work from Spectrum Motorsports.” Due to nationwide Pirelli tire shortages, Nunes had a limited selection and the Aprilia was mounted with a less-desirable compound. Ademar adds: “Needless to say, the Pirellis worked well regardless.” Ademar Nunes raced at very few events this year aboard a 2005 ZX-6R. He achieved several podium finishes with much help from Advanced Kawasaki of Buena Park, CA. His best finish was a 1st place in the Solo GTU during WSIR’s September event where he hadn’t been on a bike for over three months prior and came back to beat the Advanced Kawasaki-sponsored, WSIR Solo GTU Series Champion, Ryan Hoffman (#55), at the line. The Nunes brothers extended their acknowledgement to Kopecky by congratulating him on his 2005 Overall Championship Victory. They also wish fellow Pro Racers Vincent Haskovec, Jack Pfeifer and Robbie Dowie a speedy recovery.
