DUNLOP’S MAXWELL WINS ASBK AGAIN AT BARBAGALLO RACEWAY

Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell made it back-to-back Australian Superbike Championship round victories for Dunlop at the Barbagallo Raceway round in Western Australia over the weekend.

Maxwell’s second overall win in a row came as a result of finishing second in the opening 20-lap encounter, before improving to take a commanding first position in race two. The result sees him climb atop the 2016 standings.

“The Dunlop tyres were flawless at Barbagallo Raceway and to have the race pace that we did at the end of the gruelling 20 laps, I was actually shocked myself,” Maxwell said. “The grip level of the tyres was consistent, we were able to win the overall and take the title lead, so it’s a massive credit to Dunlop.”

Joining Maxwell on the podium once again was Yamaha teammate Glenn Allerton, finishing third overall via 3-2 finishes. Allerton’s now second in the championship, five points in arrears of Maxwell.

It was also a strong weekend for JD Racing Yamaha-mounted privateer Daniel Falzon, taking out fourth overall for the round and claiming a new lap record of 55.446s in race one. The previous benchmark was set by Allerton at 55.533s in 2011.

Third of the factory R1s was Cru Halliday in sixth overall during his first visit to Wanneroo, joined in the top 10 by fellow Dunlop-equipped racer Ben Burke (SA Kawasaki BCperformance), who finished seventh.

Dunlop riders experienced success across all the championship categories in WA, as Luke Mitchell (Yamaha) was runner-up in Supersport, Ben Leonard (Honda) victorious in Moto3/125GP and Brandon Demmery (Yamaha) on top in Production.

“ASBK round four at Barbagallo was another successful weekend for Dunlop tyres,” commented Sabastian Mincone, Dunlop national motorcycle manager. “Wayne’s overall win and Glenn’s third allowed us to increase our lead in the Superbike class points tally. And Daniel Falzon’s new race lap record that was set in race one was another fantastic result for Dunlop in the SB class.

“Our results in the other classes were also positive, with Ben Leonard using Dunlop tyres winning the Moto3 class and Brandon Demmery using Dunlop’s new A-13SP to win the Production class. Also, I would like to make a special mention of Luke Mitchell, whose huge efforts gave him second place overall in the Supersport class against other top-level competition.”

The fifth round of the 2016 Australian Superbike Championship will take place on 5-7 August at Morgan Park in Queensland, marking the penultimate round of this year’s series.

#RideHVMC Freeman Racing Ducati Works Through Challenges At Road America

Arriving at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the #RideHVMC Freeman Racing Ducati team knew they would need to work hard to find a setup for the #23 Ducati Panigale R in dry conditions. Corey Alexander had precious little time with the Panigale R in the dry, but managed two podium finishes in the wet at New Jersey Motorsports Park, a great display of riding skill and the technical abilities of the bike. After a crash in the first practice session at Road America, the challenges began for the #RideHVMC team. Making repairs to the bike ate up valuable time into the second practice, and that session revealed electrical gremlins that the team would chase the rest of the weekend, hidden damage that was difficult to diagnose. Everyone agreed to push forward, using the dry track time for more testing and to help Alexander gain confidence with the Panigale R in the dry. Later a mechanical problem forced Alexander to retire his Panigale R. The team will seek additional testing time before returning to competition at Miller Motorsports Park in just over two weeks time.

Corey Alexander was stoic with regards to Road America, stating that “this weekend did not go as expected but that is part of racing especially when riding a new bike. Every time we ride the #RideHVMC Freeman Racing Ducati Panigale R we learn more about what it does and does not like. Additionally, we had a little bit of bad luck — it’s unfortunate but hopefully we will get a chance to test before Miller and make some more progress towards being competitive in the dry. Thanks to the #RideHVMC team for all of the hard work and all of our sponsors for the support. See you in a few weeks at Miller!” Corey’s personal sponsors include: American Kargo, Arai Helmets, Boxed Water Is Better, Defy All Odds Apparel, JP43 Training & STAR School, Lapizta Watches, Outdoor Tech, Spidi Leathers, and XPD Boots. The first two races of the 1000cc categories at the 2016 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy have been held: the Superbike TT and the Superstock TT. On both occasions, BMW S 1000 RR racers took dominant wins and set new records. In Saturday’s Superbike TT, Michael Dunlop (GB) was unbeatable on his Hawk Racing BMW S 1000 RR. He took the win with an advantage of 19 seconds and clocked the fastest lap ever ridden on the Isle of Man TT Course in 16:58.254 seconds with an average speed of 133.393 mph. Dunlop was the first rider in the history of the Isle of Man TT to do a lap time below the 17-minute mark. The success for the BMW S 1000 RR was completed by Ian Hutchinson (GB / Tyco BMW) who secured second place on the podium. Three more RR riders finished in the top ten: Michael Rutter (GB / Bathams SMT Racing) was sixth, Gary Johnson (GB / Team Penz 13.com BMW Motorrad) ninth and Lee Johnston (GB / East Coast Construction / Burdens) tenth.

He won with an advantage of over 27 seconds and set a new Superstock lap record with his Tyco BMW S 1000 RR – with an average speed of 133.098 mph. David Johnson (AU / Ice Valley Four Anjels Racing) also rode into the top ten and was ninth. The third and final 1000cc race, the prestigious Senior TT, will be held on Friday.

The weekend, however, was overshadowed by tragic accidents. With great disbelief and sadness, BMW Motorrad Motorsport has learned the sad news of the death of Paul Shoesmith (GB), who lost his life in an accident during the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. The 50-year old died after a fall during the Supersport practice on Saturday evening, which he contested on a 600cc bike. In the 1000cc categories, Superbike and Superstock, Shoesmith took part in international road racing on a BMW. He was also a participant in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy. BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s would like to express its most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Superbike IDM / International German Championship at the Lausitzring, Germany.

The third round of the 2016 Superbike IDM / International German Championship (IDM) was held at the Lausitzring (DE) last weekend. Mathieu Gines (FR) extended his championship lead: In the first race on Saturday, the Van Zon-Remeha-BMW team RR rider finished second overall and took the win in the Superbike class (IDM SBK). Gines also set the fastest race lap. The second race on Sunday afternoon had to be red-flagged after four laps due to a heavy thunderstorm with torrential rain. It was not re-started and, due to the short distance completed, no points were awarded.
