Winner of the last three editions of the event and also of this year’s Bol d’Or in April, the Kawasaki factory team is leading over the Yamaha France GMT 94 Michelin Yamalube. Towards the end of the session, Gregory Leblanc on the Kawasaki #11 went head to head with David Checa on the Yamaha #94. Gregory Leblanc shot the Kawasaki to the top of the timesheets with a 0.357 s lead over the Yamaha. The two leaders are closely followed by the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (minus Anthony Delhalle, out of action with an injury) and Monster Energy Yamaha YART with new recruit Josh Hayes from the USA. These four factory teams are sitting within a single second and just ahead of the private Honda of National Motos and the BMW Motorrad France Team Thevent, still in search of its ideal crew. Sébastien Gimbert and Sylvain Barrier are now confirmed but both Jake Zemke of the USA and Josh Waters of Australia have been seen riding the bike. The choice will be made after the qualifiers. Next in the top 10 coming out of the free practice are the Suzuki of Team R2CL, the Kawasaki of Bolliger Team Switzerland, the Honda TT Legends and, first Superstock for now, the Junior Team LMS Suzuki, ahead of the Yamaha of DG Sport Herock. The Japanese team SynergieForce TrickStar is calmly getting to know the Bugatti circuit and currently sitting in 24th. The first qualifiers will start at the end of the afternoon. To clinch top spot on the starting grid, the teams will have to field a highly uniform crew, as the order is based on the average of the three official riders’ best times. There are 60 teams in the qualifiers but only 56 will make it on to the starting grid.
