OMRRA Hosts WMRRA during Season Finale at Portland International Raceway with Sutton Capturing the 2015 Formula Ultra Championship

For the final round of the 2015 season, OMRRA and WMRRA (Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association) concluded their championships simultaneously at Portland International Raceway during the biggest Pacific Northwest motorcycle road racing event in a decade. Hundreds of racers filled the paddock to capacity swelling the grids to record levels. Battles raged from vintage machines to modern superbikes with OMRRA and WMRRA racers battling for position, podiums and championship points. In the KFG Racing Formula Ultra Championship, points leader, Ryan Sutton of Camano Island, WA showed how he earned the 2015 OMRRA #1 plate by winning both Formula Ultra races in dominating fashion. Kevin Pinkstaff returned to action after an extended hiatus to score two second place finishes in Formula Ultra and turned a personal best at PIR and the third spot in the championship. Making the trek north from AFM, Joey Pascarella rounded out the podium Saturday while Brian Pinkstaff took the honors Sunday along with his personal best lap time of the season. The series championship’s runner-up, Dan Wilson, was unable to contest the weekend’s races due to a practice crash that left the motorcycle unable to race this weekend. Dan had enough of a cushion over Kevin Pinkstaff in third to hold onto the second spot. OMRRA series regular Sam Verderico’s campaign to win the WMRRA #1 plate ended over the weekend with Verderico crowned as the WMRRA champion

Standings – Round 6 of 6:

1: Ryan Sutton – 210 pts

2: Dan Wilson – 122 pts

3: Kevin Pinkstaff – 120 pts

3: Andy DiBrino – 104 pts

5: Sam Verderico – 101 pts

In the Cheshire Motorsports Clubman Championship, returning veteran Oliver Jervis barely seemed to break a sweat aboard his Zlock Racing SV650 on his way to take the Clubman Championship. Jervis scored 299 of a possible 300 points and doubled his total of lap records he holds at PIR to four. Young gun Jeremy Coffey proved why he was one of Roadracing World’s racers to watch in 2015. Coffey took home wins in 750 Supersport and 750 Superbike plus a second place finish in 600 Supersport to secure the runner-up spot in the championship. Steve Suitor continued to rack up podium finishes with a win and a 2nd place finish over the weekend in the middleweight classes to a strong third in the championship. Matt O’Rourke was a podium regular this season and eeks out fourth in the championship by a half point over British Columbia’s Jason Gasparinatos. Along with the fourth place finish, O’Rourke also placed third in the vintage championship and holds three 2015 lap records.

Standings – Round 6 of 6:

1: Oliver Jervis – 299 pts

2: Jeremy Coffey – 234 pts

3: Steve Suitor – 228 pts

4: Matt O’Rourke – 223.5 pts

5: Jason Gasparinatos – 223 pts

In the Langlitz Leathers Vintage Championship, the 2014 champion, Mica Grohn of Portland, OR came into the weekend having already secured the championship during the August. Mica Grohn made history by becoming the first woman to win a major back-to-back OMRRA championship. Ryan Shanahan of Portland, OR piloted his vintage Honda to three first place finishes and a second to close out the season second in the championship.

Standings – Round 6 of 6:

1: Mica Grohn – 169.5 pts

2: Ryan Shanahan – 113 pts

3: Matt O’Rourke – 59 pts

4: Eirik Nielsen – 59 pts

5: Donnie Stiff – 51 pts

The Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association (OMRRA) developed the two-race per weekend Formula Ultra Championship, the ‘your best two classes’ Clubman Championship and the two-race per day, Olympic-scored Vintage Championship, promoting safe, competitive road racing in all categories. OMRRA, incorporated in 1972 as a non-profit, volunteer run organization, has members ranging in age from 12 to over 70, racing motorcycles of many brands, sizes and ages. OMRRA operates at Portland International Raceway, a city park and world class track.
