LOUDON, N.H. – The Loudon Road Race Series closed out the 2016 season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the weekend of Oct. 1-2. Several championships were on the line, including the Middleweight Grand Prix “Dash for Cash” event. The racers faced an added challenge with variable weather conditions that included cooler temperatures and some rain showers.

When the start lights went out in the Middleweight Grand Prix and the field charged into Turn 1, Scott Greenwood grabbed the lead with Christian Cronin, Joel Allen, Cole Hall and Cory Hildebrand close behind.

Cronin hounded Greenwood for the lead while the racers figured out what was available for traction. As the race wore on, Greenwood laid down fast, consistent laps and was able to build a gap on Cronin, who in turn pulled away from third-place Hildebrand.

With the top two positions sorted out early, the battle on the track was for third between Hildebrand (Triumph 675R) and Allen (Yamaha R6). The two ran nose to tail for a few laps until Hildebrand hesitated with a lapped rider and took the outside line in Turn 4. Allen slipped up the inside of the lapper exiting Turn 4 to pass Hildebrand and hold on for the final spot on the podium. Hildebrand finished fourth.

Derek McGee of Ireland, a competitor in the Isle of Man and other TT events overseas, started deep in the field and had an impressive charge through the pack to grab fifth place. Supported by the Northern Racing team and on a borrowed Yamaha R6, McGee quickly adapted to the road course and also earned a victory in the Expert GTU class.

Cole Hall, Seth Hahn, John van Lenten, Roger Ealy Jr, and Trevor Arvidson rounded out the top-10.

“I got a good start and was able to put in clean laps,” Greenwood said of the win. “I was impressed with the Dunlop Slick as it was the first time I used them this season. I had the championship in the back of my mind as the race started, but the bike and the tires felt great, even in this chilly weather, so I as able to put in some fast laps and break away.

“I could hear Cronin behind me early on and I could see from my pit signals that I began to pull away. I wanted to ride mistake-free and bring it home.”

“I started in Row 2 and was able to slot in behind Scotty into Turn 1,” said Cronin of his second-place result. “I was with him for the first few laps and knew I was pulling away from third. I am happy with the progress of my MV Agusta 675R from where we started to today. It’s a very good package and I am getting more comfortable every time I ride the bike.”

Allen reflected on his third-place finish, saying “I had a good battle with Cory and was able to slip by him in traffic to earn third. All in all a great season.”

Loudon Classic champion Shane Narbonne was in attendance for the event, but not entered as he was preparing for the Superbiker Mettet race in Belgium, the final AMA Pro Supermoto event in Tucson, Ariz. and the CCS Daytona Race of Champions – all of which are scheduled for this month.

The top-three finishers in each Loudon Road Race Series class will be recognized at the year-end banquet. The event will be held at F1 Boston in Braintree, Mass., on Nov. 12 and RSVPs are required by Oct. 28.
