The young Texan had qualified on the front row by posting a 56.193 lap time. When the 29-lap race started, Spies was in the third spot on the grid. With the green lights, he was off the line and up front in fourth position. Although he rode a strong race and put forth a good effort, Spies was passed by several competitors and finally wound up in seventh. “We’ve got a pretty good set-up with the Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R600,” said Spies. “It’s better now than it’s been all year. In the race, I tried to get out front and run with those guys but we just didn’t have it today. We’ve got a few weeks before Road America and I’m confident that we’ll be in better shape by then.” Team Yoshimura Suzuki heads to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, for the sixth round of AMA SuperSport Series next month.
