Middle Tennessee ride raises $102,000

Motorcyclists had gorgeous weather for May 15’s Middle Tennessee Ride for Kids, which raised $102,285 for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

The riders came to Barfield Crescent Park in Murfreesboro to show their support for local brain tumor survivors Addyson, Blake, Krystal, Makenzie and TaMyah.

Ride for Kids Star Makenzie was the event’s top individual fundraiser. She and her family raised more than $16,000 with their annual “Car Wash 4 a Cure” event the weekend before the ride.

Regional Hardee’s locations sold more than $62,000 in fundraising pinups and also donated lunch for the event.

Event proceeds fund research that benefit children fighting a deadly disease with tools that can also cause harm. “Right now, the medicine we’re using to treat these brain tumors is virtually poison,” said pediatric oncologist Dr. Adam Esbenshade of Vanderbilt University. “We’re working to develop better, safer treatments.”

Ride for Kids also supports programs to help families. “When TaMyah was first diagnosed, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation was one of the first organizations to reach out to our family,” said her mom, Tonika Jordan.

Donations are still being accepted online at www.rideforkids.org/midtenn. Fundraisers will receive incentive credit through May 24.

The next Ride for Kids events are in Atlanta and Richmond on Sunday, June 5. Sign up today and ride with us to cure the kids!
