April 21, 2006 Denver, CO The third annual Eric Bostrom Racing 2 Save Lives motorcycle endurance event, held April 13-16 at the brand-new Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, raised a remarkable $65,000.00 for children’s charities in Colorado and Utah. This year’s total doubled the payout of R2SL’s 2005 event, and is more than four times greater than the proceeds of the organization’s first event in 2004. “I couldn’t be more proud of our volunteers, staff, and especially the 342 riders who participated in R2SL this year,” said R2SL President Sharon Foxworthy. “This event clearly showed the generosity and dedication of the motorcycling community, and what we can accomplish as a group to help some very worthwhile causes.” Over the course of four days, pro and amateur racers and street riders had the opportunity to sample two completely different and challenging race courses at Miller Motorsports Park, which is so new that construction of track buildings and spectator areas continued even as R2SL riders took to the circuits. In fact, participants noticed construction workers taking unscheduled breaks from their tasks to observe the on-track activity. “We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the MMP staff for allowing R2SL to be the first major event held at this world-class facility,” said R2SL Operations Director Ralph Forsythe. “The track surface was in fantastic condition, and what few off-track excursions we saw during R2SL demonstrated the attention paid to building a safe facility by MMP designer Alan Wilson. Indeed, there were only six minor crashes over the four-day event, none of which resulted in injury.” Contributing to the event’s stellar safety record were free classes offered to street riders who were new to track riding. Instructors from ApexTrackDays, AZ Trackdays and Madison Racing taught more than 200 participants the nuances of safe track etiquette. Students on R2SL’s first day were even treated to a unique experience as three-time world champion Freddie Spencer personally led a classroom session. Other celebrity riders on hand included Yamaha factory racers Eric Bostrom and Jason DiSalvo, Ducati factory rider Ben Bostrom, Team Green Kawasaki’s Jessica Zalusky, Jordan Suzuki’s Jason Pridmore, and former racer Vincent Haskovec who continues his recovery from career-ending injuries suffered in 2005. R2SL also made contributions to the Roadracing World Action Fund and The Wegman Benefit Fund in Haskovec’s name, to help further the cause of racer safety. “This is a world-class track,” said Eric Bostrom. “It’s very safe and a lot of fun. Also a great place to host this kind of event because of the versatile track configuration.” The Bostroms provided a few lucky participants the experience of lifetime with hour-long, one-on-one private coaching sessions that included exclusive use of MMP’s west track. Riders had earned the coaching sessions in a pre-event online auction at www.racing2savelives.org. Riders at R2SL also had the opportunity to bid in an on-site silent auction, which included numerous motorcycle accessories and memorabilia. The silent auction alone raised more than $24,000.00 for R2SL charities. Founded in 2004, Racing 2 Save Lives is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children’s charities by raising awareness, involvement, and capital within the motorcycle racing community through donations, corporate sponsorship and fundraising events. Previous R2SL events were held at Second Creek Raceway near Denver, and Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo. All profits generated by Racing 2 Save Lives are distributed among carefully selected organizations that have a significant impact on the lives of children-in-need, and their families. Organizations supported by R2SL include Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Colorado, Here’s Life Inner City-Denver and Larry H. Miller Charities. To learn more about R2SL, visit www.racing2savelives.org.
