From a press release issued by Art More, who is running for AMA Director under new eligibility rules established by the AMA Board in the middle of the last election (three years ago), which make current Director John Ulrich ineligible for re-election from the Southwest Region, despite his huge landslide victory in 2001 voting:

VOTE for ART MORE!

ELECTION FOR DIRECTOR, SOUTHWEST REGION,
ON AMA BOARD OF DIRECTORS,

I, ART MORE, am a candidate for the position of Director, representing the Southwest Region on the AMA Board of Directors. This letter is to introduce myself and request your support.

The election will be held from the beginning of December to the middle of January. The Ballots will be in the January AMA magazine. VOTE as soon as you receive the Ballot.

As an AMA District 37 officer and member of the D-37 Board of Directors for 20 years, I have always worked for the rights and benefits of the rider/racer and I will continue that goal as an AMA Director. I want to see a Family membership program and initiated a program as an AMA Congressman, but the Board of Directors has yet to approve it. I will follow the road racing safety interests of outgoing Director, John Ulrich and look for his counsel on Road Racing matters. We need to fight to save the existing riding areas in California, and elsewhere. I will make sure the necessary rules are approved by the Board for all competition venues. The Board needs to approve the District sanction of Arizona, District 31, a new organization.

Qualifications: Positions held in District 37:

? 1985 Enduro Steward.
? ‘86 & ‘87 District Referee (started the Best in the West series).
? ‘91 & ‘92 Vice President.
? ‘93 & ‘96 President.
? 2001 & 2002 AMA Congressman.
? Board member since 1986 and Chairman of the Board for four years. The District Board is responsible for the legal matters and financial affairs of the District, as is the AMA Board of Directors for the national organization.
? Started Ventura County Motorcycle Club in 1985.
? Awarded Sportsman of the Year from District 37 in 1987.
? Active member of United Enduro Association and put on great loops for the Enduro racer.
? Started the “Best in the West” series to get the Desert racers to try Enduros and vice versa. It worked, most of the Enduro riders are now also Desert racers; this also created equality between Desert and Enduro racers in regards to classes and rules.

Thirty-plus years of management and budgeting experience as a General Contractor, estimator and Project Manager should be valuable experience to assist me on the Board.

I am an avid Motorcyclist: race Enduros and Desert races; have ridden Score and Best in the Desert series; ride Dual Sport and Road (BMW 95 GSPD); so I know first hand the problems facing the rider/racer and will protect and represent the interests of AMA members in the Southwest region to the best of my ability. A VOTE FOR ME IS A VOTE FOR YOUR SPORT.
