Race Tire Service, the long-time Dunlop road race tire distributor and trackside service provider for the eastern United States, is going to take over the responsibility for those duties throughout America following Erion Racing giving up the distribution rights to the western U.S. “I’m the Steady Eddie. I’m the constant,” Race Tire Service owner Steve Brubaker told Roadracingworld.com Saturday at Auto Club Speedway, where he was providing Dunlop race tire sales and service at a Fastrack Riders track day and WERA West race event, an event serviced by Erion Racing in 2011. “They [Dunlop] asked me if I could come out west and help the racers. The racers come first and here I am. We’ll worry about the paperwork later.” Asked about the future of Dunlop race tire sales and service in the western U.S., Brubaker said, “As of now I’m being asked to cover all of the U.S. We will be at Willow Springs for the WSMC races next weekend [Jan. 14-15], too.” Brubaker went on to say he had 10 days of business meetings ahead of him to coordinate the change with Dunlop and their existing sub-distributors and trackside vendors in the west. He also said that racers and track day riders located in the west can already purchase tires directly from Race Tire Service via his website, www.dunlopracing.com, or by calling (800) 772-8473. In addition to Erion Racing and Dunlop parting ways, within the last month it has also been announced that Innovative Motorcycle Research has left Pirelli after a four-year relationship and that Racers Edge Performance has ended an 11-year relationship with Michelin in favor of becoming a Pirelli vendor. Asked for his opinion on all of the recent changes in the road race tire business, Brubaker said, “My take on it is with the economy changing those with a better business model are sticking around and those who don’t [have a better business model] aren’t sticking around. It’s a natural evolution of the economy.”
