Bryce Prince headed home teammate Jason Aguilar on their Tuned Industries Yamaha YZF-R6 racebikes and finished 1-2 in the headlining Formula One race at the Moto West Grand Prix event at the Streets of Willow on April 12-13.

Prince was in a league of his own, turning a best lap of 1:15.797 seconds and leading every one of the 12 laps around the tight, twisty 1.8-mile Streets circuit on his Dunlop-shod YZF-R6.

Aguilar and last month’s Formula One winner Ryan Matter, also mounted on a Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R6, slotted in behind Corey Sarros on his GSX-R1000 at the start of the event. As Prince built his lead, the two youngsters on the middleweights chased down Sarros, and by the halfway point, Aguilar and Matter had started swarming around the big Suzuki, trying to get past and chase down Prince.

On the 10th lap, however, Matter came into the pits with an apparent mechanical problem and retired, and at the same time, Aguilar put a move on Sarros and made it stick. That gave the Tuned Industries machines the top two spots on the podium, with Sarros the top-finishing literbike.

Scott Tillery (who rode his Kawasaki ZX-10R racebike to and from the racetrack on Sunday!) finished fourth, ahead of Jeff Stern, J.C. Gibbs and Ron Cole.

Prince also took the 600 Superbike win and the Open Superbike win, while Aguilar won the 600 Superstock and Open Superstock events.

Lets Ride Congratulates Tuned Racing on an Outstanding Race Weekend

MOTO WEST GRAND PRIX

April 13, 2014

Streets of Willow

Rosamond, CA

Bryce Prince dominated all 3 of his races, winning Formula 1, Open Superbike, and 600 Superbike, while Jason Aguilar added a 2nd place in Formula 1, to his wins in Open Superstock and 600 Superstock at Moto West Grand Prix’s Streets of Willow race.

Bryce Prince and Jason Aguilar showing off their hardware from the MWGP Race Weekend and Awards Banquet.

In the first race, 600 Superstock, Ryan Matter got the holeshot but Jason Aguilar made a quick pass going into Turn 2 for the lead. The 2 riders quickly checked out, and continued a fierce battle. Ryan took the lead with 3 laps to go. Jason was able to get back around Ryan on the final lap to take Tuned Racing’s first win of the day.

In 600 Superbike, Bryce Prince quickly grabbed the lead and checked out, taking his first of 3 wins.

Formula 1 saw a strong field including Ryan Matter, Corey Sarros, and Scott Tillery joining the Tuned Racing riders. Bryce got an outstanding start with Corey Sarros in close pursuit, followed by Ryan Matter and Jason Aguilar. Prince and Sarros were able to separate themselves from the pack. After 3 laps, Bryce was able to break away from Sarros, while Matter and Aguilar were having another epic battle. By lap 6, Matter and Aguilar were pushing so hard they were starting to close the gap on Sarros. The 3 riders were battling when Matter was hit by a rock and had to retire due to his injury. Aguilar was able to get around Sarros with 2 laps to go. Bryce was well ahead of the battle lapping in the 1:15s on his Tuned Racing Yamaha R6. Jason then put the hammer down to create some distance on the final lap, running a personal best 1:16.380 laptime on the final lap of the 12 lap race to take 2nd place.

In Open Superbike, Bryce Prince again got a great start, running away from the field for a dominating win. “I had struggled with my starts this season. Jeremy Simmons gave me some advice on how he gets such good starts so I tried it out and it obviously worked. Thanks Jeremy!” explained Bryce. Prince was running so well that it was not close racing, but it was fun watching a rider so in command of his riding.

The Open Superstock race saw Jason Aguilar and Corey Sarros locked in another great battle. The power of the 1000cc bike of Sarros against the more nimble 600cc bike of Aguilar made for interesting racing. The 2 riders swapped the lead several times during the race with Aguilar finally taking the win.

“Overall, it was a perfect weekend for Tuned Racing” stated Team Owner Mike Pond. “Bryce was riding extremely well this weekend, and Jason is continuing to improve every weekend. We ran the new SpeedAngle system on Jason’s bike and the data we gathered really helped Jason figure out some solutions that allowed him to lower his lap times. We look forward to running these on all the bikes.”
