Pretty Hate Machine Does It Again At MotorSport Ranch

The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) held its second round of Ultra Lightweight Endurance and third round of Lightweight Sprint grids for 10 hours of racing this past Saturday, April 23, at MotorSport Ranch in Cresson, Texas. Temperatures in the low 80’s with some sticky humidity and a steady breeze made for good racing conditions despite some water runoff on the 1.7 mile track from storms earlier in the week.

The Lightweight and Mini sprint grids were up first, with the 500 Superbike/Ultra Lightweight GP Expert/Altus Lawton Motorsports Ultra Lightweight Novice GP and 500 Superstock/E Superbike Expert/E Superbike Novice grids once again having over 30 entries each.

Brandon Altmeyer and Kevin Randall both took home two wins each to tie for the top spots in Saturday Lightweight sprints. Altmeyer took Ultra Lightweight GP Expert and 500 Superstock aboard his KTM RC390, while Randall snagged E Superstock Expert and E Superbike Expert with his Kawasaki 250R. 11-year-old Zachary Branch and 10-year-old Cody Kitchens took the top spots in the Mini Sprints, with Branch sweeping both Aces High Racing – Formula 8 races with his Kawasaki KLX110, while Kitchens did the same with both Rainbow Sox Racing – Jr. Motard races also aboard a Kawasaki KLX110.

As the teams got ready for the 8 hours of Texas Ultra Lightweight endurance race, a staggering 46 teams made their way to the grid, with the endurance classes of Road and Track Suspension – 500 Superstock, The Bike Doctors – 500 Classic, Altus Lawton Motorsports – Ultra Lightweight GP, E Superstock, and Formula 4 represented. The start lights went out, and immediately the Honda RVF400-mounted Pretty Hate Machine team of Jesse Davis, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede had their hands full with the Forza Four81 team of Mark Andrews, Ryan Andrews, Dustin Dominguez, and Walter Walker III aboard their Aprila RS250, “Spud”. Team Von Hertell/Harris Hill and MiniMotion smacked each other around on their Honda CBR500R’s while in hot pursuit of the leaders.

As the race wore on, some teams would suffer some mechanical maladies, while others pushed through traffic to the front. MiniMotion riders Chris Headley, Jeff Hughes, Ryan Max Johnson, and John Orchard gained the lead from Pretty Hate Machine during hour 2 and would hold it for quite a while, as JT’s Performance Plus team of Phillip Edwards, Ben Gooding, Jorge Guerrero Jr, Terence Ladner, and Colby Pyron riding a Kawasaki 300R and the Lawpup Racing team of Danny Dominguez, Eric Falt, Britten Geary, and Jordan Pence on a Honda CBR500R slid into spots three and four. In hour 4, Yamaha YZF-R3 mounted teams Speedlab and SLOW Kids at Play got around Lawpup Racing and put the squeeze on the race leaders. Pretty Hate Machine took advantage and retook the lead when MiniMotion had a snafu going into hour 6. MiniMotion recovered quickly, staying in the top five, and pushing their way back into the top three.

With great racing all through to the back of the pack as the final hour wound down, Pretty Hate Machine had stretched their lead to a solid five laps over the entire field, taking the checkers for the overall and 500 Classic Endurance win. The Speedlab team of Bill Syfan, Garet Tomlinson, and Harry Tomlinson crossed the line second overall and took the Ultra Lightweight GP Endurance win. MiniMotion was next, with third overall and the win in 500 Superstock Endurance. SLOW Kids at Play team of Ashley Azare, Dylan Deutschlander, Jay Newton, and Brylin Schrock came in fourth overall and second in Ultra Lightweight GP Endurance, with JT’s Performance Plus rounding out the top five with fifth overall and third in Ultra Lightweight GP Endurance.
