PASCARELLA TAKES SECOND STRAIGHT FORMULA PACIFIC WIN

The CT Racing Pirelli/GPR/GoPro AFM series returned to Sonoma Raceway on May 2-3 for the second round of racing action. The wind picked up for the Saturday afternoon races, causing multiple off track excursions in turn 9. On Sunday, the wind died down and was replaced by cloud cover, creating challenges to traction on the storied road course.

The premier class, Dunlop Race Tire Service Formula Pacific, was missing one of its regular front runners as Lenny Hale experienced a catastrophic engine failure in the morning practice charging up the hill towards turn 2, putting him down on the pavement and onto the sidelines for the races. As if to take up the slack, the fans did see the rise to form of a new Formula Pacific competitor, Bryce Price.

Chris Siglin got the holeshot when the green flag dropped and tried to gap Joey Pascarella. At the end of the first lap, Siglin, Pascarella, Cory Call, Mike Nigliazzo, Bryce Prince, Jason Lauritzen, Eric Gulbransen, Stephen Rue and Steve Metz formed a freight train past the start finish line. As the second lap continue, the riders started to spread out and Jockey for position, most noticeably Pascarella taking first place in turn 7. Behind him, Siglin slotted into second place while Call, Nigliazzo and Prince followed in that order.

On the third lap, Price moved up into fourth place and on the next lap, Sebastio Ferreira worked his way up to fifth position. Prince started to make up some ground on the third place Call, but the former #1 plate holder took to the offence by stringing together faster laps to keep the young rider behind him. The race continued in this order until on the final lap, Prince found a little extra speed and managed to entirely erase the gap to Call by turn 9. Out of turn 10, Price had a better drive and slipped in underneath Call at the entrance to turn 11. Call immediately fought back with a classic crossing pattern, but Prince kept on the gas and managed to snipe the third place finish from Call at the line with Pascarella securing his second Formula Pacific win of the season and Siglin taking second place.

Other standouts of the weekend were Deion Campbell with a sweep of wins in the Mach 1 Motorsports 600 Superbike, Keigwin’s at the Track 600 Production, Racer Gloves 750 Superbike and Moto Shop SF 750 Production. Ari Henning took three wins in Formula 3, Erich Steigler Insurance 250 Superbike and Formula Singles.
