One Day Past Entry Deadline, AMA Pro Racing Lists 28 Riders For 2013 Daytona 200 (Updated With Chart)

As of 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, February 26th–the day after the announced deadline for entries–the official AMA Pro Racing website listed 28 riders entered in the 2013 Daytona 200. That’s down from the 46 riders entered in 2012, the 50 entered in 2011, the 51 entered in 2010, the 84 entered in 2009, the 71 entered in 2008, the 76 entered in 2007, the 78 entered in 2006 and the 91 entered in 2005, the first year of the event switching to a 600cc format. In 2004, the last year of the Daytona 200 featuring 1000cc Superbikes, the event drew 65 entries. Over a 10-year period, Daytona 200 entries have looked like this: 2013, 28 riders (Daytona SportBike) 2012, 46 riders (Daytona SportBike) 2011, 50 riders (Daytona SportBike) 2010, 51 riders (Daytona SportBike) 2009, 84 riders (Daytona SportBike) 2008, 71 riders (Formula Xtreme) 2007, 76 riders (Formula Xtreme) 2006, 78 riders (Formula Xtreme) 2005, 91 riders (Formula Xtreme) 2004, 65 riders (Superbike) Over the same period, Superbike class entries have looked like this: 2013, 23 riders 2012, 25 riders 2011, 29 riders 2010, 29 riders 2009, 37 riders 2008, 36 riders 2007, 39 riders 2006, 49 riders 2005, 58 riders 2004, 65 riders Meanwhile, entries in the reconfigured SuperSport class at Daytona took off once age restrictions were lifted. In 2009 and 2010–with age restrictions in place–the class drew just 23 and 22 entries, respectively. In 2011, the class drew 44 entries at Daytona with 53 entries in 2012 and 56 entries listed for 2013 so far. So SuperSport entries have looked like this over five years: 2013, 56 riders 2012, 53 riders 2011, 44 riders 2010, 22 riders 2009, 23 riders In the five years prior to SuperSport being age-restricted, Daytona entries for the class looked like this: 2008, 52 riders 2007, 71 riders 2006, 56 riders 2005, 70 riders 2004, 55 riders In the same five years prior to the class being consolidated into Superbike, 1000cc Superstock entries at Daytona looked like this: 2008, 31 riders 2007, 33 riders 2006, 43 riders 2005, 36 riders 2004, 54 riders Combined, overall Daytona entries for the classes listed above look like this over a 10-year period: 2013, 107 riders 2012, 124 riders 2011, 123 riders 2010, 102 riders 2009, 144 riders 2008, 190 riders 2007, 219 riders 2006, 226 riders 2005, 255 riders 2004, 174 riders More to follow…
