MotoAmerica To Update Balancing Regulations For Junior Cup

Following the lead of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, which adjusted balancing regulations following the first round of the 2018 Championship, MotoAmerica has issued a Technical Bulletin alerting its Junior Cup teams and competitors that it intends to adjust their balancing regulations. The new regulations will go into effect at the VIRginia International Raceway event scheduled for May 4-6.

From Technical Bulletin 08-2018:

All MotoAmerica Junior Cup Teams 

Balancing regulation updates. 

From and including Round 3 VIR the following will apply: 

The FIM/DWO Rev-limiter / quickshifter will require a software update. The updates will be sent to teams as soon as they are available. Updates will also be available and take place during technical control at VIR. Final RPM limits are currently being calculated by the FIM using the latest results from WSS300 and Round 1 of the Junior Cup. It is highly recommended that Ninja 400 and KTM RC390R competitors prepare for a potential of up to 2000 RPM limit decrease by obtaining additional final drive gearing . 

2.7.4 Minimum weight 

The minimum weight for each model is as follows: 

Honda CBR500R 153Kg 

Kawasaki Ninja 300 (EX300ADF) 140Kg 

Kawasaki Ninja 400 150Kg 

Yamaha YZF-R3 140Kg 

Yamaha YZF-R3A 140Kg 

KTM RC390 136Kg 

KTM RC390R 136Kg

2.7.9.1 Ignition / Engine Control System (ECU) 

n. The initial revlimiter setting for each machine is as follows: 

Machine: Max rpm 

Honda CBR500R Increase TBD 

Kawasaki Ninja 300 (EX300ADF) 13,000rpm 

Kawasaki Ninja 400 Decrease TBD

Yamaha YZF-R3 Increase TBD 

Yamaha YZF-R3A Increase TBD 

KTM RC390 Decrease TBD 

KTM RC390R Decrease TBD 

The following modification’s will be allowed: 

Yamaha R3 and Yamaha R3A: 

Airbox air filter cover may be reduced 

Air funnel may be shortened (with no limit) 

Airbox intake tube may be removed (rubber) 

Honda CBR500R: 

Air funnel may be shortened (with no limit) 

Airbox intake tube/funnel may be removed (this part is the filter mount)
