April Showers Bring May…A Seventh-Place Finish Aboard The #00 Yamalube/Westby Racing Yamaha R1 In Superstock 1000 Race 1 At Circuit Of The Americas

Austin, TX – April 11, 2015 – Experienced rider Geoff May, who joined Yamalube/Westby Racing less than a week ago, does not have a lot of seat time yet aboard the #00 Yamaha YZF-R1 Superstock 1000 bike. And, the laps that he has run aboard the brand-new-for-2015 R1 have been in a plethora of weather conditions.

Geoff’s MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 initiation continued on Saturday during the series’ inaugural race. Before this past Thursday, Geoff had never even visited the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), let alone raced a motorcycle on the 3.427-mile, 20-turn road course. And, to complicate matters even more, rain fell throughout the race. Geoff finished seventh after being in fourth place for a good part of the abbreviated, 12-lap contest.

“We’ve made progress every time I’ve been out on the bike,” Geoff said. “I rode the bike for the first time on Thursday, qualified sixth on Friday, and was looking at a fourth-place finish in Race 1. Unfortunately, we had a mechanical issue towards the end of the race, and I had to settle for seventh. It’s definitely not where the Yamalube/Westby Racing team and I want to be, and we’re determined to get a better result on Sunday in Race 2.”

MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Race 2, run in conjunction with Superbike, will go green at COTA on Sunday at 3:30 PM CST.
