Hayes Finishes Second At New Jersey As Beaubier Arrives At The Threshold Of His Second Straight MotoAmerica SuperBike Championship

Millville, NJ – September 11, 2016 – In Sunday’s MotoAmerica Superbike Race 1 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, four-time AMA Superbike Champion Josh Hayes finished second, while his Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Factory Racing teammate finished fourth. The result narrowed the gap between the bLU cRU pair to 22 points going into the 18th and final Superbike race of the season.

Josh started from the pole position that he earned in yesterday’s Superpole session and got a perfect jump off the line to take the lead in the race. Cameron was in the lead group, got down to business, and clicked off the fastest lap of the race, which brought him up to Josh and Roger Hayden at the front.

Josh and Hayden swapped the lead a couple of times, and Cameron passed Josh, but it was short-lived as Josh had one mission–and that was to win the race–while Cameron also had a Championship to think about.

Later in the race, Toni Elias joined the fight and eventually got past Cameron to earn the third podium spot, while Elias’ teammate got the win and Josh crossed the finish line for a close second.

Josh commented, “I got a good start, and my first flying lap was a good pace. When Rog went past, I was fairly content to sit there for a while, and then Cam got past me, too, so I thought I’d better pick things up a bit. Before the race, I told Cam, ‘You’ve got a lot to think about, and I have one goal here. I love ya, Cam, but it’s your choice about what you want to do!’

“Roger started to get away a little bit, so I needed to go and try to catch him. I got past Cam and gave it the best I could, but Rog put his wheels in the right places everywhere on the track, so I had to take second.”
