Mathew Scholtz Is Ready To Return To Form This Weekend At WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Tulsa, OKJune 20, 2018Round 5 of the 2018 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship gets under way this Friday at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Mathew Scholtz and the Yamalube/Westby Racing team will join the stars of the Superbike World Championship at one of the world’s most challenging, picturesque, and iconic racetracks.

If there were a provision for a “MotoAmerica Mulligan,” then Mathew’s weekend at Road America would have been it. But things don’t work that way in motorcycle road racing, so the “Durban Dynamo” is heading to the Monterey Peninsula with a solid plan to put Round 4 of the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship behind him, return to form, and put himself back on the podium twice this weekend.

“I love Road America, but that weekend was a disaster for me,” Mathew said. “I ended up on the ground in both races, and I have to put the blame squarely on myself. My team is 100% behind me, I’ve got a great bike, and I’m determined to come back strong this weekend at WeatherTech Laguna Seca. And what better place and time to do it than during World Superbike’s U.S. round? Laguna Seca is a great track, which I really enjoy, and it suits our #11 Yamalube/Westby Racing Superbike very well. The feeling of going down through The Corkscrew is like nothing else anywhere, except maybe a rollercoaster or a very fast ski slope.”

Mathew is currently fourth in the 2018 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship and just 10 points out of third with the series not quite at the halfway point of the season. “There is still a lot of racing left,” Mathew added. “But, we’ve got to turn things around this weekend. Ed (Sullivan, crew chief), Dustin (Meador), Frank (Shockley), Jon (Cornwell), and Chuck (Giacchetto, team manager) have been working really hard. I owe it them, to Tryg (Westby, team owner), to our sponsors, and to the rest of the team to run up front and win. I’m ready to get back to doing that this weekend.”

Superbike Qualifying Practice sessions begin on Friday, and Superbike Superpole (Qualifying) is on Saturday at 12:00 PM Pacific Time. Superbike Race 1 will go green on Saturday at 3:15 PM Pacific, and Superbike Race 2 is on Sunday also at 3:15 PM Pacific.
